Traveling to Chicago - law changes?

OK . For more clarity. I DO have a Texas chl. It's not that I want to carry in Chicago. I want it for the 1000+ mile drive . If needed, I can stop at the Illinois border...or city I of Chicago and put it in a locked case in the car. Many thanks all.

You should be fine having a handgun loaded in the car for the drive across Illinois and having it in your hotel room there.
