going up to VA this weekend to pick up my jeep. problem is I have to fly in via Dulles, which is in DC. only a one way flight though.

I have a TN carry permit which is honored by VA, but of course NOT by DC.

question is, would I be breaking the law just by flying into DC with a handgun in my luggage?

DC has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, and from what I've gleaned from checking out packing.org it would appear that having a handgun in your possession in the district would be violating the law.

any help?

You are fine. Dulles is in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and your TN permit is valid there. Dulles is a good 40 min drive from the District.

Washington Dulles airport is on the Fairfax County/Louden County line well outisde the city itself.
Reagan Washington National Airport is in Arlington Virginia right across the Potomac River friom the city itself.
Even the Air Force base in Washington, DC does not have a runway.

Just for the record, I flew into Dulles last October with two handguns in my checked luggage; that airport staff (and the airline counter, IIRC, Continental) was most professional and courteous both inbound and outbound. No worries, no big deal there -- of course, my problem was that I had to transit straight to my buddy's home in the Baltimore area with the pistols locked in the trunk (no stops, per Maryland's wonderful lack of peaceable journey gun laws), same on the way back for my return flight.

thank god the airport will be as close as I get to Baltimore or downtown DC.

headed to stafford VA from the airport.

thanks again for the straight info guys.
