While I've never owned a Sig, i have shot a number of them, and find them to be solid, dependable pistols. A friend let me shoot his Mosquito .22 today, and I was definitely not impressed. The fit and feel were typical high Sig quality, but the trigger was horrid. After a fair amount of take-up, the single action pull was long, heavy, and very gritty. Compared to out of the box .22's I've shot from Ruger and Browning, this trigger would place fourth out of the three! . Yes, I know triggers can smooth out after use, but a maker of Sig's reputation should be able to make sure the trigger is at least acceptable- and this one was far below that level. Ain't gonna buy one.

I love my Sigs, I have a P225, P226, P226ST, and P239. I also really like my walther P22. So when the Mosquito came out I thought wow this is going to be good. I really didnt like it either and sold it shortly after. But mine was one of the first ones and Ive hear quality has improved a bit. The sig trailsides are nice 22 pistols if youre into plinking.

I know what you mean

When these first came out I lusted after one badly. They look so cool, and it’s a Sig, right? Well I went into my local FFL and asked to see it before buying it and the salesman who knows me (all too well) talked me out of it. He said that a bunch had come back with problems and told me to wait to see if sig would fix them.

Who would have thought the Mosquito would have been a disappointment? Well, it was. About a brick of .22 before it was traded.

Chuck, I feel the same way about the Mosquito. I normally like Sig handguns quite a lot. In fact until I discovered the CZ-75B, the 226 had been my all time favorite handgun. But I didn't like the Mosquito at all. The trigger was horrid. I had only tried one and I thought maybe it was a lemon. I hope this isn't indicative of the gun in general or they have a real dud on their hands.

GOSH YOU GUYS, THANKS FOR THIS THREAD!!! Seriously, I was one bid away from getting one for my wife who has now evidenced interest in a pistol, being fresh from a woman's "Guns and Stuff" class she took... I'm thinking either a Neos, or Buckmark, or 22/45, now.

Ditto. Bass Pro has them on sale and I was seriously thinking about getting one. Glad I found this thread.

The Mosquito suck any way you look at it!
I had 5 here and all of them went back to Sigarms to make them work!!
They did not work that much better commig back.
Anyway, if you look for a great .22 auto loader, buy a CZ Kadet or better a CZ and the Kedet conversion kit:

Trailside (by Hammerli) OH YEAH
Mosquito? :barf:

The story on the Mosquito is so bad, that the tactical version came with a metric threated barrel (while the mosquito was made specially for the US market) while all the suppressor companies in the US use 1/2X28" standard.
Someone in Exeter forgot to tell the boys in Germany I guess!!

If you were considering a Sig .22, most definitely look at the Trailside. First rate materials used throughout; though the grips are a little on the plain side, and a trigger pull so light and clean it's scary. Outstanding quality and value for the money. Get the adjustable sight model if you can find one.

+1 for the Trailside
-1 for the Mosquito
Sig needs to drop it and move on

The Trailside is what I bought with the money I got for my Mosquito. WOW, what a difference. :)

I had persistent uncontrollable urges to swat the Mosquito that I rented. Mosquito...good name...because it really bugged me!

My shooting buddy ("fedlaw" on this Forum) has a Trailside, and it's light years away from the Mosquito. Of course, Hammerli has been making competition .22's for ages.

I have the Sig Trailside the test medallion with the five shot group is less than one inch at 25 meters. My neighbor just bought a Sig Mosquito and we took it to the range a few days ago. Even The Test Group sheet that came with the gun had the pistol shooting 4 inches high with a group size of 4 inches! Rear sight only drift adjustable for windage, came with three different heights of front sights to adjust for elevation. Every handgun I have ever seen in the Sig lineup has been a quality firearm, not this one.

For a mid-sized .22 semi-auto, I really like my Beretta 87 Cheetah. A bit on the expensive side, but the trigger and functioning are just fine right out of the box. I think the negative comments I've heard about the Mosquito outnumber the positive ones by 10:1. Until I hear something more positive, I'm going to pass on this Sig.

The Beretta 87 Cheetah is top line on .22, the only trouble there is, that Beretta does not imports it anymore!

My mosquito bites

I went in to get a ruger 22/45 for my daughter, took a look a the Sig Mosquito and fell in love.

I brought it home and the trigger was so bad my 14 year old had trouble with it. Also, it failed to cycle over and over all afternoon.

Now, after spending darn near $400.00, I'm feeling kind of foolish. Could have spent about $150.00 less and had the Ruger which would have never ever failed but NOOOOO, I take a look at a younger, sassier gun and lose my senses and now it seems I'm stuck with a very pretty, hard to get along with beast.
