Thought I'd throw this out there.I do a lot of target shooting with a variety of guns and with the cost and scarcity of ammo and components I have revisited pellet guns. My first "gun" was a Crosman "150" that my brother gave me in the late 50's. I shot countless rounds with that thing through the years. Crosman still makes a very close variation of that pistol in the form of the 2240/2300 series. They are accurate and fun to shoot, with an endless choice of after market bling and performance items. Pictured is one I just completed. Point is you can get in a bunch of trigger time at a very low price. Enjoy

Is that a CO2-powered gun? Been kinda keeping my eyes open. Decades ago, I had a CO2 Crosman 357 revolver; was a great piece for D/A revolver trigger practice. It eventually broke at the break-barrel tabs that hold it shut.

I picked up a Daisy CO2 pistol that is very similar to my Smith & Wesson. Takes forever to load the magazine, but size, weight, safety and trigger pull are very close. Don't remember the model number. Accuracy isn't what I hope for, but the similarity with everything else made it a worthy purchase.

By the time you add the cost of the pellets you can shoot a 22 LR for just a little more. When the ammo shortage is over you will be able to shoot a 22 LR for .03 a shot. Premium pellets cost more than bulk 22 ammo.

Right now a pellet pistol might be handy to have. They are great if your wife will tolerate indoor shooting. My wife said no! I shoot the 22 all the time. Then I would sit up until 3 am shooting the pellet pistol. I have a Crosman pump pistol.

The wife not only said yes, she said look here, you can shoot from the sofa and set the bullet trap up in the closet and get about 10 yards. Also said, we have spackle if you miss. Even set the chrony up and have fun checking out velocities. Oh yeah, she's a shooter.

hahahaha

if you are gonna compare cheap 22 to premium pellets the difference may not be so great but target pellets to ely and lapua and ya have an unbiased discussion... before the nuttyness a cheap box of 525 or so of 22lr was at 20.00

cheap usable pellets can be had for 1/4 or less if ya shop even now

Crosman decent pellets are 6-8.00 per 500

I am a fan of both rimfire AND pellet gun choices.... still today and tommorrow a .177 pelletgun gives the most target/plinkin per dollar there is....

Not long ago we were shooting 22LR guns for cheap practice. Since that's no longer possible I see nothing wrong with using a pellet gun.

Check out the IZH-46M. Awesome pellet gun, very very accurate out to 10M. No CO2 or PCP to worry about either.

You can also look at Airsoft for training/trigger time. I purchased (with some trepidation) a nice Tokyo Marui 1911 Airsoft pistol to practice with in my basement and backyard and it has improved my drawstroke, trigger control and time-on-target substantially. It's weighted, and although it recoils like a .22 (very much like my GSG1911 .22LR training pistol in fact), it's really quite helpful. And propane and the pellets are dirt cheap.

Great idea! I was just looking the other day at pellet guns at Walmart, thinking that this would be a very cheap way to go with some indoor practice set up in the garage or basement.

The problem with airsoft is that the smooth bore and round pellets do not make for good accuracy. So the groups are so big that it simply is not a good reference for proper sight picture and trigger discipline like a .177 pellet out of a properly rifled bore will provide.

I've got a great little all metal BB version of the Walther PPK. But being smoothbore and shooting round BB's the "groups" are around 3 inches round at only 10 to 12 FEET away. So while fun and all it's useless for any sort of meaningful target shooting.

But for setting up a bunch of IPSC or IDPA targets and then clearing your house of evil cardboard there's much to be gained with a good airsoft option.... :D
