I have a 39 yr old S&W 2" Chief's Special AirWeight. I bought it new in 1971 to use as my off-duty weapon. I think I have fired it about 10 times in all these years. The other day as I was checking it out which I do once a year or so just to make sure it still works, I noticed something. The damn trigger weight on it must be about 15lbs! Maybe more. Would more use lower the weight of the pull? As I get older I think my trigger finger loses strenght 'cause I never notice this way back then. My service revolver was a S&W .38 Model 10 (?) and I don't remember it having such a heavy pull. However, I did fire the 10 many times at the range for qualification. I didn't fire my AirWeight because it was totalling inaccurate figuring that if I ever had to use it it would be in very close quarters. I guess that's why they call it a "belly gun."
I was also showing my wife, for the umptheenth time, how to shoot it in case of emergency. But only in double action figuring that if I have a hard time in single action she would have more trouble pulling the trigger.

o_O Have a gun smith check it out?

Both for accuracy and trigger I guess, because my snubbies aren't inaccurate. I'd definitely say check it out. Can't hurt, right?

I have six j-frames, and the trigger pull weights vary. The worst I had was a like-new Model 31 in .32 long. Fortunately, it is real easy to replace the springs in a J-frame. The two springs affecting the trigger pull are the mainspring and the rebound spring (which pushes the trigger back to the starting position). If you go to Wolff gunsprings online, you can get a replacement standard mainspring (8.5 lbs. IIRC) and several different reduced rebounds, all for $15-20. Really made a difference on my gun. If you stick with the standard weight mainspring, you won't have any problems with ignition, and it will lighten the action if you just by chance got an extra-heavy mainspring from the factory. The rebound spring can be lightened without affecting ignition, as it just affects how fast the trigger returns.
