Has anyone ever tried one of these on a pistol? I have an encore I'm looking to put some sort of dot sight on. I called trijicon and they said it would hold up.

I think you will find it a bit too bulky for mounting on your Encore.
The tritium dot kind of fades out in real bright sunlight too, even with the polarizing filter in place.

I have a four mil dot Reflex ll on one of my AR15 carbines.
It is a good, durable sight and needs no batteries but there are definately better choices out there.

If you really want a non magnafying dot optic on your handgun consider a Doctor Optic if you can find one.
A much better choice for a handgun and they stand up to heavy recoil too.

I've already tried the jpoint red dot and wasn't impressed. I kind of figured the reflex wouldn't be any bulkier than using an actual pistol scope.

I have a Trijicon Reflex II that I have used on my Encore (.357 and .44 Rem Mag). I've had it on a Desrt Eagle, a Marlin lever gun and a few others. No complaints over the past 5 or 7 years that I've had it.

It is a good sight overall, but there is no way to controll the brightness of the triangle, other than putting a little tape on the collector to dim it a little. The only time it seems too dark is indoors when there is a lot of contrast.

It's extremly rugged, and not too bulky IMO for the Encore. Adjustments are very predictable and repeatable, one thing you won't get with a Doctor or J Point sight.

The only real alternative IMO is an good Aimpoint.
