I'm trying to make my first batch of AK rounds. Everything has been fine up to the point of seating the bullet, but the bullet has a really deep cannelure.
The seating depth I'm using puts the case mouth right over the cannelure but because it's so deep the mouth doesn't hold onto it and the bullet sinks another .030" into the case neck (where the cannelure ends).
The result is that I can only seat the bullet to deep or too shallow. I can't crimp it in the right spot because once the bullet is seated to the depth of the cannelure, it just falls into the case neck until it gets to the un-cannelured part of the projectile.
The bullets themselves are, I believe, some of the old/discontinued Hornady 123gr, .310" FMJs. Anyone know what I can do? I would think that the case neck should be holding onto the lower part of the bullet, even if the very tip of the mouth is a few thousandths wider than the cannelure, but obviously not.
Any advice would be appreciated!
