Google has let me down.

I just bought my first AR with Troy folding sights and need to adjust the elevation of the front sight. I pushed down the pin and used small needle nose pliers to rotate the sight.

Surely there is an easier way. I am concerned about damaging the post grabbing it with pliers. Is there some little tool or something that will fit over the post to rotate it?

Thanks

the AR front sight is intended to be adjusted with a specific tool. I'm suprised a quick Google of "ar15 front sight tool" didn't yield thousands of them to buy.

All of the Googled links said the Troy folding sights do not need a special tool. But using pliers just doesn't seem like a good idea.

Troy does not have anything on its site.

maybe by not a "special tool" they mean that any AR sight tool will work that you don't have to buy a Troy specific sight tool.

can you post a pic of the sight?

For the Troy sight I use Brownells 078-000-010 A1/A2 AR-15 Sight Wrench.

It has a four-prong head (A2) on one end and a five-prong head (A1) on the other end. It's for front sights only.

Troy uses a four-prong A2 front sight post.

You could also use a 078-000-009 A2 AR-15 Sight Wrench.

One of those little rubber balls from the toy-for-a-coin machines might improve the ergonomics of the tool.

There are two different versions. One uses an AK-style front sight post that you can turn using an AK took or a smashed case mouth (step on one on a concrete floor or mash it with a Leatherman) the other version uses a standard AR post with the detent that you have to push down and which you can turn using an AR front sight tool.

I just sold an upper with those sights. Loved the sights, but had to include them with the upper.

Any way, the way I did it was to use a small blade screw driver, the kind you use for glasses, to push the detente and rotate the post at the same time. It was a PIA, but worked. I figured it's a 1-time adjustment, for me anyway, so why go through the expense of a new tool?

Thanks guys.

I knew THR would come through.

I will order the Brownell's, but mashing a case mouth is a handy field expedient.

And this will join the archive and come up on the Google THR search.
