TRP 1911 or S&W 627?

So I have a Browning Hi-Power 9mm, 4" GP 100 .357, and a Remington 870 12ga.

I'm looking to add 1 more gun to my collection and the GP100 has sparked my interest in revolvers. The S&W 627 Performance Center seems to be a very fine gun. I can get the TRP for ~1200 and the 627 for ~1000.

Reasons for the TRP is that I don't have a 1911 style gun and I do like the design.

Reasons for the GP 100 is that my parents and sister don't own guns and I was thinking of keeping my GP100 at their home just in case. This way I have 1 revolver, 1 auto, and 1 shotgun.

I'm also hesitant to the TRP because I have heard some reliability issues with the TRP.

So far, I have not heard 1 bad thing about the 627 (besides the price). I know what I'm getting.

BTW, this is for a house gun/camping gun.

I am a 1911 fan. I am not very much a revolver guy so I voted over the TRP as I really want one. I think it really depends on what you intend to do with this gun.

Both are very nice guns but are very diff't from each other. Over the last few days tho, I have had a chance to use a couple TRPs and have really grown to like them. So, as of today, at this moment in time & space, I'd go w/ the TRP

I voted TRP because I have one and know firsthand it's a great pistol. Reliability issues? Never heard that before. I haven't experienced anything but pure reliability with it.
They are a bit costly but from a value standpoint they are hard to beat.

I have no idea. These are completely different pistols and I'm not sure how to compare them. I also don't know what you like or need.

How can I or anyone else tell you what pistol is best for you?

I see this question all the time on these forums and I have never understood it. I would never expect someone else to know what sort of gun I want or need. And like this case, the choices offered are usually radically different guns that are not in the least bit comparable and are not intended for the same purpose.

Sorry, I just don't get it.

Go with the TRP I had mine for a year and half and love it. When I first got it I was having a probem with the slide not going fully into batery (tight chamber) sent it back to the Custom Shop and had it finished in a week! SA has great customer service and the TRP is one of their finest pistols. Mine has been utterly reliable since it was serviced and quite a few of the people I know with TRPs never had any problems. Once you have a quality 1911 .45 there is no turning back.

I think the 1911 will be slimmer for camping carry. If you go with the 627 you had better love moonclips. You already have a .357, so I'm voting for the big bore.

I vote for the 1911, plus the TRP is a fine pistol. But you're asking for apples to oranges, they're so different to compare again that all your answers will be based on personal preference.

I prefer the 1911 platform to a revolver, so one more vote for the TRP

They are both fine pistols, and you probably couldn’t go wrong with either one, and yes, you are comparing apples and cumquats here, but these are the two pistols that you are interested in.

I went TRP because you don’t have a 45, and you just don’t get any more 45ish than a 1911. While I have a few wheel guns, and like them very much, there is just something elegant and beautiful about the 1911 that speaks to me. Awe crap! Now you got me thinking in 1911 mode…

On second thought, don’t get the TRP! 1911’s are addicting, and the best way to quit is not to start.

I do not own a 627. I do not believe you have to use moonclips, but you might look into if it changes the headspacing without them. I know I have seen threads on this from people with light competition trigger pulls, may not be an issue with you. I know I have seen the rubber rip-away speedloaders for these, MAX- something? Sorry to be so vague, seek out 627 owners.

I owned one of the earlier 627's, and I suspect the current PC versions continue S&W's tradition of making them the best finished, sweetest handling .357 DA revolvers you can buy. 1911's are everywhere; the 627's are fairly scarce. I'd buy the 627, then later get an S&W 1911 to match it.

I'd get the 627, but that's because I don't like the TRP's grip. The checkering on it felt extremely unpleasant to me. To be completely honest, it was the most uncomfortable gun I've ever held. But, you might not mind it so much. Just hold one and find out.

One could just as easily say 'Revolvers are eveywhere, the TRPs are fairly scarce.' And it would be true. Both of these are top end production firearms which come thru their respective manufacturer's custom shops. Neither are common.

That would incline me toward the 627. Either would do well as HD guns. However, the variety and versatility of .357 Magnum & .38 Special loadings give the 627 a significant advantage as a woods gun.

Those are both pretty high-priced guns. I'd get the GP100 for $400 or so and see how much you like revolvers. The GP100 also strikes me as much more practical than the PC627, esp. with the 3" barrel.
