Tru-Glo Tritum Sights

Yes...I've got Mepro Light Tru Dot sights on two guns...a Glock 17 and a S&W 6904. Greatest thing going in dim light and dark. Plus, it's comforting to tell where the gun is on the nightstand!

Just put TruGlo TFO's in a Sig 229. Like radar, any light conditions.

I pulled out the Meprolights. Found them too hard in medium-to-semi-bright light. (Probably more durable, but then, I'm not in a breaching team.)

Next, a set's going in an XD-9 SC.

Ala Dan,
No I have not "jumped on board".
In fact I have never wanted a set of night sights.

Still believe in and recommend "old tech" , works in all lighting conditions, never loses "light", not as fragile...

Gold Beads.

I really like the TFO's, particularly the yellow rear, green front. Here are the pics of my XD45 with TFO's. Not sure how to avoid using thumbnails. Anyway, click on the thumbnails and you should get a bigger pic.

Crummy picture, but here's my G26. I really like 'em.

I also wanted the yellow/green. But my gunshop guy ordered the wrong set TWICE. I got tired of waiting, and just went green/green. I'd read somewhere in the dark, the front sight could get skewed & mistaken for the right or left rear dot. Seemed to make sense. But in practice, it might only apply to a firearm with a long sight radius. To get that angle on my G26, it has to be so badly canted it would be like trying to shoot around a corner.

Believe me, yellow on green suck in low light! I have them.

The yellow is a much dimmer color than the green, so it's harder to get a sight picture. Also in the dark and using a tac light they totally wash out and are no better than plain old iron sights!

Daylight they work great! low light OK'ish!, totally dark, OK but dimmer yellow! Just don't turn on any lights to check what you're shooting at!

That's why I went with a TLR-2 for my HD weapon. No questions about sight acquisition, just point the light/laser combo and shoot!

I have a G19 that came with a set of Green on Green TFOs. I love them. I'm about to order a set to put on my G21sf.

So yellow is not bright enough?
I was seriously considering a set of yellow/green for my USP45. Should I get green/green instead?

Jason

Dan and Jason, for what it's worth, I've found that yellow is fine, actually preferable for me. The yellow is not as bright as the green and for good cause. I find that my eyes are drawn to the front sight faster because of the contrast, as suggested to me at point of purchase, now confirmed by me. I have both and prefer the green yellow combination. They will be what I purchase from now on. They glow bright during the day and bright enough in low light to be visible. In total darkness, ANY and all night sights would be useless. These most certainly suit their intended purpose for my carry gun and are my absolute favorite sights of all.

Yeah, this is the reason I wanted the color combo. I just wanted to make sure the yellow wasn't too dim. Thanks for the feedback, 45-nut.

The yellow is just a bright as green in daylight. Mine must be defective, because the yellow night glow is WAAAY dimmer than green it's not even funny.

I have green/yellow TFO's on my sig, same deal, at night, the yellow is dimmer then the green, but green TFO's are the brightest night sites i have ever seen, maybe its just the difference between the 2 that makes the yellow look dim.

I had a set put on my XD45 about 6 months ago....wow what a difference. I wish they made them for my other guns as well. I really like the fact that the tritium light only shows up in the end of the fiber optic rod and not through the length. You are correct about the dimness of the yellow as compared to the green. A buddy of mine got the yellow/green instead of green/green lke mine. He almost sent them back because of the difference.

I'd like to see a set of two-tone. The only TFOs I have seen are all green and the rear with two lamps six inches closer kind of overpowers the front. Not what I want to aim the gun with.

I asked the rep at SHOT about front-only and he said that would take a large wholesale order for them to make and package just the front sights for use with existing rears.

Cool, this may answer one of my questions. I have been hesitating to look into TFOs because I was under the impression that the entire green tube glowed.

If, God forbid, I am in an altercation in the dark, I don't want the top of my sights glowing towards the bad guy so he can see where I am.

I guess, based on the above quote, that my fears were unfounded?

the tops will glow a little, if your in a real dark room it does have some light but its not alot, i will try to get a picture of that and get back to you guys.
