College campus's sometimes have different rules and regulations than grade and high schools.

California pretty much outlaws carrying a gun on state property. So colleges, etc.

Captial Punishment and Byron Quick make excellent points.

In celebration of our freedoms, the next 4th of July should be National Open Carry Day. What better way to show that Americans can still bear arms in a lawful and responsible manner?

ABB, sounds like a good reminder of what the 4th is really about.

OC in MA is legal, except it isn't. If you get cought OCing the nice officer just might advise you to conceal it. Or he might suggest you are an "unsuitable person", and you can wave goodbye to your LTC.:banghead:

I was on my way into the barber shop myself this weekend while open carrying, and then realized that as soon as they draped that cover over me I'd be concealed, even though not through my own action... just something to keep in mind if you don't have your CHP and are taking advantage of OC.
In the barbershop you are on private property not in the public so CCW laws don't apply.

Ok Ohioan's,

My goddaughter lives in a little town outside Toledo. Assuming I decide to get off my butt and get my AK CCW again (has reciprocity if I read the State page right) can I as a non-resident open carry?

For whatever reason (laziness) I let my permit lapse and now I have to sit through the class (and pay for it) again to get a new one. Since I now don't need one to carry here (<ahem> neener, neener) do I get all the privileges of a local in regards to open carry in/near the city Klinger made famous?

Back before we got CCW I open carried quite a bit. I've even had face to face conversations with police officers while openly carrying a USP 45. I always paid attention to my attire, usually khakis and polo's or button downs, dressing like a bum will result in being treated like a bum, it's just the way things are.

The CCW law does not impact Ohioans right to carry openly, so long as you're not in a motor vehicle.
Remember that if someone panics and calls the police you can possibly be charged with disturbing the peace, it is the officers discretion.

*The above may not be kosher in all citys/towns. Check local ordinances.

No Doubt About It

Attire has something to do with the way you are perceived if doing Open Carry. The sloppier you are, the worse the impression. On the other hand, if wearing a decent polo shirt, nice pants, etc. you are perceived entirely differently.

I normally carry concealed. But on occasion, I open carry with little notice by the average person because I dress nicely - not flashy, but nice. Open carry would be more acceptable if more people did it with more frequency.

One of the great and unexpected benefits of Shall Issue has been to show people that honest people carrying is a good thing. People who were opposed have seen the effects.

Open carry would capitalize on that.

Perhaps I mentioned this before -- a friend was in a restaurant in Virginia, carrying openly (because you can carry openly but not concealed in a place with an on-premises license.) A woman saw him through the window, ran for a cop -- and the cop came, looked, shrugged and walked away.

I was out and about the neighborhood this morning with my revolver openly carried on my belt. No one seemed to notice or care, including the two ladies with a baby in a car that stopped to talk to me.

I guess because I was wearing a cowboy hat and riding a horse it just seemed natural to be armed. ;)

(the lady wanted the baby to meet my horse :) )

:D

As I said before I did change my shirt, I have many WDW tee shirts. I just felt, let's be nonthreatening and wear a Disney themed shirt rather than a GSSF or LEAA shirt, or a "SKULL" or "MEGADEATH" shirt (a la beavis and butthead) or something even sillier.

As when I said I visited OSU Campus, I meant, "the area" rather than actually "on campus property". I think it is still illegal to carry on a state funded school property.

What if we all REALLY DID get together and create "National carry a gun day" on July 3 every year or something? Show what INDEPENDANCE means freedom wise.

Maybe everybody really thought I was undercover cop? Are people that "trusting" that a stranger with an open carry weapon is a cop???

If you were running through the mall....

With only a shoulder rig on and your tennis shoes. You would have been left alone by the mall guards.

I've a friend who streaked through the mall, got caught, and sat in jail, naked....no kidding. If she had a shoulder rig on w/ 2 magazines, I suspect she would have escaped. Still, no kidding, it happened, can't wait to tell her kid when he's an adolescent. It's one of those you save for decades for just the right moment.

"only a fool would carry an empty gun"

Love that statement, hope you don't mind if I use it when the need arises?

The ORC does not address open carry. The Ohio Supreme Court has stated in a decision right before CCW was passed, that the Ohio Constitution protects open carry. They did not address open carry in a car, thus you probably shouldn't carry in the car unless you have a CCW. You could still very well be arrested due to open carry, but it won't stand up in court.

ok people this is what the law says

Amendment II
A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

yeah we all know this one . but how many know this one .

Amendment X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people.

the constitution already states we can carry a gun anywhere and anytime . and the states or cities have no say . period . our soldiers are dying in vane because people wont use the rights granted by the bill of rights . when it comes to constitution there is no compromise , to many have died so that we may have and keep them and i will not spit on there sacrifice . i open carry (1911) because the second says i can . i have no problem fileing treason charges on a cop or any one else for that matter . use it or loose it .
