I got my permit last week and today was essentially my first opportunity to carry. Usually when I'm not to/from work it is to/from church or my sons school.

I was carrying a SW40F in a paddle holster at the 4:30 position covered by a long polo shirt and a jacket. I have found this particular shirt to be absolutely perfect for concealment. I went to two different grocery stores and a convenience store. I was nervous for all of 3 minutes until it wore off. I went with a son and a daughter and neither if them realized I was carrying. So I guess I would call that a success. I also scanned every entry door for a no gun zone sign but thankfully nothing posted. I am visiting in PA with a VA license.

Also I didn't find the paddle holster "too" uncomfortable for driving but I wouldn't use it on a longer trip than to town and back

my first cc experience was on the mean streets of Gatlinburg lol. I found myself surrounded by families with kids just out enjoying themselves. I was so nervous that I couldn't wait to get back to the car and lock the gun up.

Did you have both the shirt and the jacket over the gun? If so that seems like quite a bit to get out of the way if you needed the gun

I guess by the time I got my permit I had though about carrying enough to get over most of the fears that new permit holders face. Took a few trips to the store before I stopped worrying about my shirt getting hung over the grip exposing the gun. But I am in a state where we have a carry permit only. It doesn't have to be concealed so I wouldn't have legal issues if my gun was exposed.

The point about your son and daughter not knowing is very helpful in overcoming paranoia. If someone with you knows you are carrying and forgets about it while you are out, why would someone you don't know even suspect you are carrying?

I got my permit last Friday. Stopped by the PD on the way home from work and picked it up. Later that night my gun club put out a message that there was going to be a meeting at a local animal shelter with the local reps and senators with gun control being one of the topics. The rep who authored the house bill to register every gun at the cost of $100 each was going to be there. I attended that meeting carrying :neener:

You will become very comfortable and probably try other weapons. You will probably also spend a couple hundred bucks trying out new holsters. Congratulations on making it to the next level of responsibility.
