I just did the course last week, and submitted my CCW application on friday. 90 days until it gets back.
Oh, and my C&R license should be back any day now.

So I'm trying to decide what to do, and I figure you knowledgeable folks can help me out.

I have a full sized M&P 9mm. Will I be able to conceal this? I'm about 6'2", 250 lbs. Probably going to do IWB. OWB in winter.

Or, should I look into getting another smaller gun.... j frame.... cz 75 compact, cz82, bersa, etc.

What do you guys think?

(as far as holsters, been looking at the UBG holsters)

If I DO conceal my current M&P, then I will probably get some .45 cal handgun as my next gun in the future, but I would wait a while. I'd rather wait and do that if I can, to keep the wife happy.

thanks!

As always, my reply is: Get a S&W J-Frame...I like the Airweights best for carry. That and two Bianchi Speed Strips will see you through most problems. (17 rounds) Light, reliable, proven carry gun.

With your size & the right attire, you can conceal about anything. I like your option above. However, it's nice to have a smaller piece to throw in the pocket when need be. That always seems to be the case when you are in a hurry to go to your neighborhood "shop & rob" for some milk or beer...:)

Good points.

I guess I should unload the gun and put it IWB (no holster) and see how well I can conceal it and stuff like that. see how comfortable it is and all. That should help give me an idea, right?

I like the idea of a pocket gun for quick on the run type stuff. j frame .38 would be perfect for that. May have to make that my next purchase....or ask for one for father's day, haha.

more than anything, I guess I'm just excited about being ABLE to carry concealed!

IWB; SIGsauer SAS type DAK pistols...

If you really want to use IWB type rigs and have the $$$ I would get a new SIGsauer SAS/DAK compact in .357/.40/9mmNATO. Ideal would be the .357SIG round for duty/CC/protection. :D
SIG's SAS means the sharp edges/rough spots are reduced/removed and the DAK is a smooth DA only trigger with no hammer spur, ;). SIGsauer pistols are already plated with a great coating that prevents rust/wear and they have a excellent service record.

At 6' 2" and 250 lbs you should be able to hide a field artillery piece...Try 5' 7" and 145...And I hide a compact 9mm X 19 IWB under a shirt with the tails out...

I'm just going to start cutting and pasting this answer into the bazillion different "what should I get" threads that start here every day....

"As long as your weapon is at least .380Auto (preferably 9mm) or larger get the weapon that (1) fits best in your hand (2) you can trust to reliably function at nearly 100% all the time (3) best fits your normal CCW situation and (4) fits into your budget"

You have to decide on your weapon, we can't do it for you.

did you read my post at all?

My question is:
Is it possible to conceal my full size handgun, or should I look in the market for a smaller pistol to CCW.
then secondarily, what to get if my gun was too big. but it seems like it is not too big from previous posts

Did you read my post...

Yep. Did you read mine?

Trying carrying your M&P 9 concealed around the house for a few days. See if you feal comfortable with it's size and keeping it concealed. That would be point 3 of my post and is something you can figure out before you even step foot out of the house (ie. without having to wait for the CCW). I can't tell you what you will or will not be confortable with. Some folks carry full sized 1911's, some don't like to carry anything bigger than a Beretta Tomcat.

If you feal like it's a good "fit" for you, your job is done. If you feal comfortable with points 1 and 2 of my post you're decision is complete. Carry with pride and get lots of training. I'll assume you've got point 4 covered since you already own the weapon.

Otherwise, if you feal you woln't be able to keep the weapon concealed based on your trial run, get something different. In which case, refer to my first post for further advice.

Not trying to be a jerk, but so many of these posts are questions with no answers since the answers are so subjective and personal. Try it for yourself and decide.

#3 is the only one that is relevant, and that is the one that I was asking a question about. I see what you're saying, I was not trying to be a jerk either.

I tried out my gun and have decided it is fine for me, provided my shirt is long enough.

thanks for the responses

:D Bushmaster!

I was going to comment the OP could easily carry AOW 12ga!

chupa, I would also suggest KL Null holsters for a few ideas.

CCW

I have a M&P 40 that is the same size as your M&P 9 (too close to call anyway) and I find it not the easiest gun to CC with (6' 180lbs). I think your M&P could be a good cool/cold weather gun, but forget trying to wear it if it's 95 and sunny, unless you like to wear jackets and pants all summer long. I carry a Kel-Tec P11 in warm weather and sometimes I may carry the M&P, but it is just a lttle big for my taste. Just my opinion though.
