Trying to Pick

Trying to choose between these pistols because next month I turn 21, I only have enough money for one, and I want a railed gun, since it will be a HD gun.
Will be fired a lot at the range during practice.

My 24/7 in .40 has worked flawlessly since I got it in July. Well over 1000 rounds without a single jam of failure to fire. I haven't used the others so I can't really say anything about them other then I don't like the XD grip.

You can't go wrong with either the full size P226R 9mm or a P229R 9mm Carry.

And, either gun, with a set of Crimson Trace Grips will make it, like my P229, my night, and nightstand, HD/SD weapon of choice.

Easiest gun/s to field strip, inspect, clean, and reassemble out there, bar none, a key feature.

Along with, no safety (a good thing) but a "frame mounted decocker-only" that one does not have to sacrifice one's proper 2-hand grip to use, making it so easy to decock gun out of SA mode, back into DA mode.

Accurate out of the box, on the money, with their Sig Night Sights that glow 24/7 for some 8yrs.

Mine has 2500 rounds out her without any failures of any kind, just 100%


The full size 226 is slightly longer, but has a thinner slide than the 229 fyi.

I'm a bit partial to Sigs, so I'm gonna say go with the 226. But I'm a Sig dealer so of course I'm going to say that.
FWIW, I'll sell you a 226 or 229 base model with rail for $715 NIB, shipped and no cc charges, or a 226 CPO for $495. Night sights add $40 to the price of the NIB models. [/blatant plug]

Sig makes a fine and reliable weapon. I don't think you can go wrong with them.
Also, if you have money to spare, I have a bunch of their higher end models at the moment as well.

this is like going to a car lot and telling the sales guy you have 3 cars in mind: a kia, a ford, and a cadillac. i would stay away from taurus unless that is all you can afford. two of my bro-in-laws have xd 9's and they shoot great. but as great as they shoot i still love my sigs. the one thing about poly guns is the weight factor and they do have the edge on a sig 226...but with sig you have the options of sa only, da/sa, or da only.

I actually like the taurus 24/7 OSS in 40sw in the 5 inch barrel.

I picked the Sig. Great gun. The Xd's always felt a little cheap & plastic and the Taurus I would not even consider.

Get the Sig and you will be very happy.

People on a forum can't pick a handgun for you, that fun is all yours. You will have to fire all three and see which YOU are more accurate with and which one feels better in YOUR hand. The people here can tell you how reliable the pistols you listed are but nobody can choose a handgun for you. Like I said, choose the one that feels best in your hand and most importantly, buy the one you shoot most accurately.

Out of those three choices I myself would choose the sig, with the xd not too far behind. For the money the XD is a great gun. I'm not a huge fan of Taurus but I have heard many good things about the 24/7. I just bought my first handgun, I thought I was set on Sig P220 and for some reason when I got to the store I ended up coming home with an HK P2000 .40 instead. I am completely satisfied with my choice. As others say handle them all and shoot them all see what ones you like. who knows you may end up getting something completely different like i did.

I own both the P226 and the XD. I'm not saying I won't warm up to it, but the XD is not shooting as well for me as my Sig P226.

IMO the SIG outclasses both of them. Not only in price, but in quality, enjoyment of shooting and owning.

The XD is a good gun, works for some people, didn't for me. For a service pistol, the P226 is definitely my favorite.

I have a XD 45 tactical. I fired, in one session about 800 rounds without any problems. I'm now working on about 4,000 rounds through it. No problem with factory ammo its my reloads I'm working on thats giving me problems. I love it! Its like a cheap whore, it will handle all the abuse you can give it.....oh, sorry I got to go the wifes calling.

I have heard many first hand horror stories about the Taurus customer support and repair times that has steered me away from them, even though many people have their guns and seem to be happy with them. I personally have dealt with SA customer service more than I would have liked due to issues with on of their guns (not an XD) on the flip side, SA is GREAT about standing behind their weapons, they go above and beyond the call. Sig IMO is the winner, they have great customer service and spectacular reliability, and you pay for that, but its worth it.

This pretty much sums up my feelings. The XD is a good pistol and it's possible you might like it more than the 226 but for me the 226 is worth the extra cost.

I currently own the XD in .45 and love it! I have iwned the 226 and regret getting rid of it, only reason I did was because it was 9mm. I'll never own another 9mm. A friend of mine owns the 24/7 and he hates it. He has had more problems with it than he can count. Try all 3 and decide from there.

You need to check these out for yourself. I don't know much about the Sig, except it's a great gun. But the XD and the 24/7 have VERY different triggers - at least, in my experience. I can't shoot my brother's 24/7 very well because - to me - the trigger is just plain funky...long and (to me) creepy travel. I prefer the crisp break of a normal SA auto - a 1911 or my Taurus 92 (shooting SA). The Taurus is a decent gun at a good price, but try it before you buy it. My vote is the XD, because I plan on that being my next 9mm auto. I like it, respect it, and have heard almost nothing but good for it (the exceptions are about the earlier finish, which seem to be fixed).
