I've about rounded out my rifle collection, and I am wondering what guns I am missing from my entire collection. I've basically covered my deer needs and home defense needs, but woud like to add more to the collection.

So far my current collection:

Rossi Single Shot-------- .22lr/.410
Savage Mkii Bolt Action - .22lr
Ruger 10/22 ------------ .22lr
Walther G22 ------------ .22lr
Baby Eagle Compact ---- 9mm
Marlin 30as ------------- .30/30
Remington 870 18" bbl. -- 12ga
Ruger M77 Mkii Compact - 7mm-08
Mosin Nagant M44 ------- 7.62x54R
Remington XR-100 ------ .22-250

I think it would be neat to have an assault rifle type weapon like an AR, but would like to keep costs under or around $600.

I already know that I am missing a revolver, and would eventually like to own one. Any suggestions given the price? I've been thinking about either an SP101 or GP100 (If I got bought a revolver I'd like to get a .357 magnum... either that or a 45-70 BFR if I could find one around my price range.)

Thanks for any suggestions!

Both the SP101 & GP100 are great revolvers and built to handle the .357 forever. I have the GP100 in 6" ss and its obviously much more accurate than any of my semi autos in reguards to long range shooting. Just a fun range gun. You should be able to get either for under your $600. cap.

You can probably build an AR for 600 or just a little more. An AK or SKS would serve you well also.

For a Revolver it depends if you want to carry it or not. If carry is an option a SP101 would be a good choice. But if its main purpose would be for plinking a GP100 would be more comfortable. A Ruger Security Six can usually be had for 350 on down depending if it is SS or blued.

+1 on the M1 Garand. You also need a 45 ACP, S/W vintage 686, vintage model 29, and perhaps a 243/270/308 cal bolt gun.

I don't want to be too picky, but a civilian AR-15 is not an assault rifle, it's a semi automatic rifle in a military caliber.

An assault weapon has select fire capability, i.e., semi or full auto, like an M-16, M-14, etc.

The media like to call all scary looking semi-auto rifles assault rifles, but it is incorrect. I think one bonehead congressman tried to get the term assault pistol to stick to semi-auto pistols, but alas the ministry of information failed.

You're weak in the handgun area and a high quality 22 rifle. I'd add a AR of your choice. Everything is personal preference as I would not buy a number of the firearms you own. So, I can't see a pattern to your preferences.

here's my list of what you should add:

1911
m1 garand
sks
ak
mosin nagant 91/30
makarov
colt saa clone
92fs
ar
tokarev tt-33

I hate to say it...

But these threads that ask "what gun should I buy" are worthless unless you specify a group of guns....

You asked about ARs... Great guns, get one.
Ruger GP or SP... great guns, Get one....

All you have opened up is... Here is my pet list of guns that you must have even if you have no interest in them whatsoever....

So, my list....

You MUST get
a Borschardt Sharps in military configuration in .45-70
Hitler's personal Luger
an H&R Single shot 12gu
a 40 MW Laser
Buck Rogers raygun...

There. Now you know what guns you need.

Pick out the guns you are really interested and ask questions about them... asking random people what gun you need next is like asking what dog do you need... a million answers...

And for the dog... an Australian Cattle Dog, of course.
