My father-in-law stayed at my house over this last weekend and we had some interesting conversations. He works for TSA in a very large US airport and knows just about everything that goes on there.

We always talk about his job and different things going on there. During the course of our conversations he told me that TSA brings in "undercover" testers to see if the screeners pick up on things such as ultra-compact .22 pistols, knives, etc.

I was dismayed to hear that about 6 out of 7 screeners fail these tests.

Nevertheless, he is pretty confident that airline passengers will never again allow terrorists to take over a US airliner. I tend to agree with him but who wants to put all their confidence in fellow passengers...

perhaps the purpose of the screeners is more to make the sheeple feel safe.

Don't. Carry a can of Coke or other soft drink and an old but sturdy sock in your carryon luggage. Insert can in sock for a handy improv mace. Then in case of emergancy, lead the charge.

My step mom used to work for the TSA. The screeners did an almost perfect job of finding the stuff that she was sometimes assigned to try and sneak through.

She was not in her uniform, but she had her badge on, everyone knews when some of the agents went to test the others, plus these where people that she worked with.

I realize how much the people of this board hate the TSA. I do the same thing at my airport, but I'm also told not to talk about it prior too, nor discus the results with anyone. Because after all, I would think information like that would be handy to someone had had ill intent. No?
