I've got a .308 Remington Model 7 carbine that used to shoot great. Over the past couple of years the rifle has lost some accuracy. I was thinking about trying the Tubbs Final Finish to see if that would help.

Has anyone used this product before and if so, what were your results?

i tried it on a couple rifles. in one rifle it made no difference, and the other made things drastically worse.

get some barnes cr-10 and remove the copper, and try again. also possible the rifle now has a different preferred bullet (either profile or weight or brand, etc).

Make sure the copper is out first. (CR 10 works very well)
JB Bore Paste will finish the job, but IMO, Bore Brite is a bit less invasive, and may just do the trick.
That "fire-lapping" shouldn't be considered yet.

I tried it for an old 222 I was having problems with....didn't make anything better and probably worse.

I would second the JB Bore Paste....clean out the copper first. I use the JB Bore Paste once a year on my high volume rifles and have had good luck.

+1 to the copper removal and bore paste before trying the Final Finish System.

I used the Tubbs on an old rifle that needed a lot of help - and it did help...........but I don't think I would use it on a reasonably newer bore.

I just used it on my XP-100's factory 7BR barrel. It shot accurately, but fouled rather easily, and took awhile to clean with jacketed bullets. I wanted to use cast bullets, but with the rough bore, wouldn't even try it. I used the last three grits (of the five) in the kit, and used them as directed in the instructions, and the bore is noticably smoother when running a tight fitting patch down the bore. It also seems to foul less, and is a snap to clean. I can't comment on any tiny accuracy increase or loss, as I don't shoot from a bench, the gun is shot using the Creedmore position for silhouettes. It seems just as accurate, and now I am using cast bullets @ 2050 fps in the pistol, something I wouldnt even try with the barrel before the treatment. I would definately recommend using FF on a gun that has a rough bore, especially if cast bullets are in your future.

Before I did anything as drastic as fire-lapping, I would get some JB Bore Paste and clean it real good with that first.

Do that first, then check to see if something is loose, the scope is OK. If that does not fix it then bed the action.

+1 on the jb bore cleaner. the real problem PROBABLY is copper build up. firelapping with any system is not going to help you any if ALL of the copper is not out first. in fact, it will surely screw up a good rifle by wearing one side of the bore. if you do not want to mess with it, take the gun to a gunsmith, and have him clean it. i have had very good luck with the tubbs system. but, i cleaned the #$%^&* out of the barrel first. it was as clean as it had ever been before i fired one shot of the final finish system. that part of it is clearly explained in the instructions of david tubbs final finish system. if people do not follow the instructions properly, how do they expect to get propper results.

There are other things to consider too.
Scope, could be starting to fail. Can be tricky to diagnose sometimes.
Rings and mounts. Are they tight?
Action screws. Everything torqued properly?

These were the first things I checked. I've thought the scope may be going bad, but I don't think that is the problem. The stock and action were bedded back in the early 90's.

I'll try the J-B Paste and see if that works. I'll post results if we ever get any decent weather here.
