I found a good deal on Tulammo. What kind of accuracy can I expect from it out of a Savage bolt action? Caliber: 223

The last batch I got (62gr) was actually pretty accurate. I was getting 3MOA groups out of it compared to 2MOA for other ammo thru the same rifle.

I wouldn't worry about the steel case or jackets. If it bugs you buy a extra extractor with the money you save on the ammo.

I didn't measure it, just eyeballed my groups, but as I recall I was getting around 2" out of my ar. (1:7 middy) and it cycled fine. I was shooting 55grn stuff. I don't see why it would hurt a bolt action much.

Out of my Saiga it's more accurate than other foreign steel case ammo but not quite as good as American brass cased stuff.

Out of my AR it's not even worth buying. XM193 is only 2 bucks a box more and shoots sub moa without me even trying.

Like I always say, Russian ammo in Russian guns, American ammo in American guns.

Imo tula is too inconsitent, I can often feel the recoil diffrence every few boxes I shoot though my pistols. I also find tula ammo cuases jams across the board for several guns I own, for the same guns brass ammo never does(dont know if its the brass vs steel or just lousy tula powder loadings).

dont get me wrong tho I do still buy tula, just not often. price is very competitive.

I've run several hundred rounds through my XD45, and it has cycled and fired flawlessly. Also, its shown similar accuracy out of that pistol to the cheap federal ammo and cheap winchester ammo. As far as the rifle stuff goes, I can't bring myself to waste good money on ammo I have a gut feeling won't shoot MOA or better.

I get 2 inch groups at 100 yards with it out of my 1:7 twist AR with Iron sights if I do my part.. Get the occasional flyer that I of course blame on the ammo

Buy by the box?

The boxes my ammo comes in hold 1000 rounds. I'm buying the Tula because I'm also practicing close in shooting. I don't care that's it's 3MOA when I'm shooting at 2 yards.

Unfortunately, yes. I am longing for the day that I can buy ammo buy the case... I'm sure when you buy by the case there is a much bigger price difference.

Is there some reason you cannot?

You know the answer.

A lot of people can't afford to drop $350 for a thousand rounds of XM when they feel like it. They buy 100 rounds at a time when they can afford it and shoot it. The other option is to not shoot for a while and save. What fun is that for them as I was there once or twice.

$350 is half rent or a car payment for half the population in the Midwest.

Well, right now I'm stuck working at a crappy company till I can finish trade school, but at the place I work, you work 60 hour weeks April through October, and the rest of the year your lucky to get 10 hours in. So yea, money is a bit tight right now coming out of the winter, and buying ammo is a little difficult when there are a hundred guns on your bucket list. :D

At least I'm not sitting on my butt collecting unemployment because I'm to lazy to find a job!

Sorry Ranger, I thought it might have been a NJ firearms/ammo rule issue. As you know, we have a few tough gun rules!

Hope you get to wrap up your bucket list soon. :)

I have had really good luck with the Tula 75 gr. HP loads in an AR. Your bolt might or might not like it, especially if it has a 1:12 twist barrel. 1:9 might work.

Just went through 100 rounds of it and would get about 2-3" @ 100yds. Wont give you any problems in a bolt gun or really any other gun. Went bang every time and was fairly accurate. Cheapest ammo around here by 2 bucks a box have no problems with it if its all I can find and I just want to do some plinking
