Did a little scouting. Some distant calls. Getting pumped up for the season. This year I'm trying both the Winchester SX2 and my Marlin 22mag, the smallest caliber allowed, and the only other gun I have available for turkey. They're both ready to roll. Wyoming is not the best state for turkey hunting, but it gets me out, and I know there's a few gobblers out there. Getting them on public land is a challenge. Had a few snow storms, and now everythings melting. Camo and mud, a very good combination...

Driving into town yesterday, I saw a flock of about 40 in a pasture, with a big tom in full strut!

I go with the .22 Mag whenever legal for turkey hunting. In Virginia, we had a field back in the woods on our leased hunting lands that was planted -- rotating corn and soy beans. For fall Turkey season, I would sit in a deer stand with my Ruger M77/22M.:D

Sheez, yet another reason for me to relocate to the Ozarks.

The National Geographic, as I recall, did a book on the Ozarks where they said, "To the average resident of the Ozarks, Heaven is some kind of hunting preserve."

To which one of my neighbors replied, "If it ain't, I ain't goin'.":p

We have the only national park -- the Buffalo National River -- where hunting is legal. In fact, a couple of years back I was leading a hike on the Buffalo River Trail and walked into a turkey roost -- birds all over the place. There were turkeys taking off, turkeys taxiing into position, turkeys calling the tower for clearance -- it must have taken them ten minutes to all get airborne.
