I traded for a 25-308 wildcat on a mauser action today and was wandering if you could advise me on what scope bases I would need. There are a lot of choices on bases (98, 96, FN, etc). The action looks to be the Turkish large ring small shank. It is marked TC, ASFA, ANKARA, K KALE, 1940, SN 31xxx. Sorry if you are purist, I didn’t cut if up and sporterize it and customize it, I just traded for it. It is already drilled and tapped.

I guess my question is this considered a large ring mauser 98?

There were only a few small ring 98s. The front of the receiver containing the barrel threads and the locking lugs will be approx. 1/8" larger in diameter than the side rails, the small ring model is even. The only other concern is the distance between the action screws, there are two major action lengths. The majority of Turkish Mausers were made in Germany, then arsenal reworked.
