Turnbull S&W M15-8

Remarkably similar, I just today took possession of a Model 15-3. I snagged it off of GB. Spent a little more than I’d wanted to, but… it’s now in my guardianship.

Bluing isn’t perfect, but much better than I’d expected based on the picture pictures. Just a touch of holster wear on the barrel at the muzzle.
My plans of using it as a “beater” just got discarded….
In another thread, I exclaimed “HERESEY because someone bubba’d a .38 hand ejector…
I bought it because of nostalgia for a M-15 I was issued and carried on my first day as a rookie cop. That and shooting my older brother’s Airforce Pistol Team issue M-15, which was tuned by Jim Fish, of Tampa, Fl.
IMO, it was the pinnacle of service revolvers. We are only now appreciating it.

That Turnbull revolver is amazing! :oops:Congratulations!!

My Model 15 needed a good bit of cosmetic help when I bought it. The bluing on the barrel, grip frame and cylinder was really thinned out from holster wear and a dusting of rust. My FFL was able to touch up the bluing a bit to bring it close to its original glory.

Luckily it was still mechanically perfect and shoots like a dream, IMHO.

So much so I had to add a Model 18 .22 LR understudy to play with, too. :D

Great revolvers, both.

Stay safe.

Finally got to see the S&W heritage that I bid on, the auction pictures were washed out and you couldn't see colors or patterns at all.
I have yet to see a Turnbull finished gun that I didn't like though.
When I got to see this one in person it didn't disappoint.
WOW! That is one gorgeous revolver. Congratulations!

If that is what floats your boat  to you.

Personally I don't care for the finish except on SA revolvers and lever and single shot action rifles. Don't take this as a put down. It's just different strokes for different folks.

anybody know someone that can do real or fake color case? i got a model 10 long barrel that would love the look

but not TB… too expensive

CraigC... Are those linen micarta stocks on that nickeled M-15 in your post #7 ?

I've got a cpl SS Ruger BH's that would do well with a set like that. I've never made up a pair of S&W grips as the double mortise intimidates me, but the Ruger and Colt single actions are no real trick. Just wondering.

Best Regards, Rod

Antique paper micarta from Sheffield Knifemaker's Supply. Last I heard, it was no longer available but I haven't checked in a while.

Very nice, congratulations, and thank you for sharing.

I like the colors on my Turnbull finished Winchester (I sent it back for work and this last time, the colors were the prettiest):

You better believe it! In that picture it's not been fired since it returned from Turnbull, so it's extra clean. I had a couple of small things that Turnbull fixed and they re-cased it; it's prettier than it was previously.

I had the receiver coated with lacquer, which is what is normally put over case coloring on restored guns, instead of clear cerakote which is normally put on case colored new manufactured guns. I had some discussion with the folks at Turnbull Restoration, and was told, if I want to have even wear over years of use, lacquer was a better choice. I plan to use the heck out of the gun and when my grandson gets it, it'll look like a 100 year old Winchester does now.
