Two 9mm to rent, which ones ?

I got a deal on renting 2 9mm autos from a local range (2 pistols, an hour of range time for two ppl, and a box of ammo all for $28).

Now I need to figure which ones to rent so as to not waste an opportunity.

In no particular order I am thinking of:

Glock 26 - because I am thinking of eventually getting one for CCW and want to see how I'd like shooting it with or without pinky extension

Ruger SR9c - same reason

S&W M&P whatever the compact version is called - same reason

Beretta 92fs - a cool looking all steel full size gun that I only had a chance to shoot once a while ago

Any all steel CZ they may have.

I will be bringing my G17.

So, what guns would you pick (assuming they don't carry anything fancy). I am open to anything either cool (any size) or CCW practical (meaning, something in the sub-$600 range, about the size of G19 or smaller).

Rent the ones you have either never fired or have fired the least. I wouldn't choose any of them since I've fired them all. The 9s I own now are a BHP, G26, G19 (Gen 3 and 4) and G17. I've previously owned a couple of Smiths, a Baby Desert Eagle and a Tanfoglio. I just kept the ones I liked the best.

But if you're getting two for $28, why not rent them all? The last time we rented a gun for my wife to try it ended up costing her dang near $50 for an hour's time, 50 rounds, the gun (.38 Chief's Special or similar) and one silhouette. Seems to me you're getting a nice deal and should maybe try and extend it. At basically $14 per gun, you're only talking about $70 or so.

If it was me shoppng for a defensive-carry gun, I'd be most interested in the Ruger and the S&W M&P Shield (if that's the one they have.)
I shot a friend's Glock 17 and it just didn't "fit". Since you have one, you might give the G26 more thought than would I.

If you shoot your G17 well, you'll shoot the G26 just as well. The G26 is a no-brainer in my opinion, I carry one daily. I'd skip the a rental on the G26 (just buy one) and see if they have some pocketable 9s, like the Kahr P/CM9, Beretta Nano, etc.

The Beretta 92 is cool, that would be on my list for full-sized 9s. Maybe a Sig?

I'd rent the glock 26 and a FN FNP-9 or FNX-9 if they have one if not I'd go glock 26 and ruger sr9c.

I just got a beretta 92fs. If I ever get to where I make a will I am going to put in it I want to be burried with it. not really. I LOVE it. It is a little heavy to carry but I do all the time. It is so fun to shoot. Easy to break down and easy to clean. I could go on and on. I do not like or will I ever own a gun with my pinky hanging. It just does not feel right. I can't say anything bad about it. I just got back from my range here at the house. I walk down there for the exercise. About half way down I found out I left it at home so I had to shoot my ol colt defender 45. I was mad. Not really the colt is great tol

Definitely try the Ruger SR9c and the S&W M&P9c.

Try the Glock 26 too.
And don't be surprised if you shoot the G26 just as well (or even better) than you shoot your Glock 17.

If I'm not mistaken, the Beretta 92fs is not at all steel...the frame is aluminum.

And if you plan to carry concealed just be aware that the Beretta is just about the biggest and most bulky 9mm you can buy.
It's definitely not concealed carry friendly.

CZ's are good guns. but the all steel full sized ones are really too heavy for concealed carry.
Yeah, it can be done, but it's a real PITA.

I bought the same coupon ... and was hoping to run some rounds through a Beretta and a Bersa 9UC. I'm actually looking for a new 9 for HD (not for carry ... I have a Bersa Thunder CC .380 for that duty). I'll definitely be buying at least one extra box of ammo for the hour. I might be down there this weekend. Livonia?

I want to try G26/Ruger/M&P for defensive carry. Beretta or CZ just for fun.

I don't doubt that if I can get used to the grip, I'd shoot G26 just as well as G17 at normal ranges (10-15 yards). I am not sure I can get used to the grip. When I held it in the store it felt funny.

I didn't realize Beretta 92fs was alum. frame. Felt quite heavy. But then I am comparing it with a plastic fantastic .

I will also see if they have any 9mm revolvers. I've never shot a revolver, so this could be fun.

I bought my gun 90% for range fun. While a good defensive weapon is important, the location and a good alarm system (including your personal habits) make much more difference, imho. I'd rather walk unarmed in a middle of the night in a yuppee suburb than armed to my teeth in Detroit in bright daylight.

easyg it is all about counter balance. I carry my 92fs all the time now because I love it I keep my Colt 1911 45 on the other side like a counter weight. Of course last time I went to the dr I was 2 inches shorter than I had been. It is such a nice gun I can put up with a little weight.

Glock 26 and Beretta 92FS. Both classics and very different in how they feel. I took my Beretta 92 to an indoor range recently and rented a G19 just so I could do some comparison (had never used a Glock before). Ended up buying a G19 a few days later. Enjoy it and my 92 on a regular basis now.

Well, first, thanks for replies !

I decided to go with G26 for sure (all being said it's probably #1 on my future buy list, and I need to see if I actually like it). The second one - whatever strikes my fancy at the range, most likely M&P Shield as it seems to be a good alternative for CCW should I hate G26.

Hey shipwreck, nice collection. Can you take a pic of the sight picture of the night sights versus standard. So I need another 92fs to get my collection to grow by itself? Are your compacts the original or the newer compacts? I wish beretta would make a more compact compact. Something sub 4" barrel sized with 13rnd frame. I would buy that in a heartbeat. Do they still make the Compact M version with the single stack?

As for the compacts, the Type M is long since discontinued. IF you can find mags, they are not cheap. My two Type L compacts were bought about 13 months ago, in that new batch that was imported.

Check out a Sig, Beretta, 9mm 1911, CZ. You may find a difference in shooting with the added weight. Also for fun the M&P to compare it to your Glock.
