Today, I aqquired two firearms from my Great Uncle (My DAD's Uncle), An Old Remington 700 .270 and a Winchester model 275 pump action. in .22 Magnum.
the Remmington has some nice iron sights and the Winchester has a cool old Buchnell scope (model name is scratched off.) The Winchester's stock is in pretty rough shape, gonna get it refinished soon. As soon as I can get my stupid WebCam to work i'll put up photos, but I have unable to find the serial number on the winchester to find out when it was made. My father has told me stories of hitting Dragonflies at 30 + yards with this rifle. The Remington: The Remington 700 is definately an older version. The stock is in better shape than the Winchester, but I still might refinish it. I can't tell if it's an ADL or not, so I might have to wait until I can get my WebCam working before you guys can tell me exdactly what model it is. Serial number is : 343515. When was it made? Also, it has "U C R 65" stamped on the left side of the barrel near the reciever. Any info on these two firearms would be helpful, and I do apoligize for not currently being able to put up photos.

Person,

I would never touch the stocks of these family guns. They tell great histories of their days in the field.

Just my $0.02... ;)

BTW...two great Classics!

When I inherited an old Winnie, I did all the repairs to the stock in such a way that the 100year old external finish was unaltered.

Someday you will be glad you did it that way.

That's the code Remington uses for manufacturing dates, I can only find data that goes to 1972 and it seems your rifle was made after that.
