1. The bulk of home break-ins are committed by juviniles.

2. The bulk of them are familiar with the home and nieghborhood.

Find the kid who knows that house, and you're close to solving it.

nurses are very aware and analytical!

Nurses also work the night shift, which is when they got into my girlfriend's house. It was at the end of a 5 or 6 day (night) stretch, so yeah, they were scoping out the house. 4+ nights with no car in the driveway is a dead give away. :fire:

wow, just found out from my parents today that the neighbor next to us to the right got house broken in.

it happened at 10am when they went to church. it only took them 1 hour and the house had security alarm.

they broke into a house with no magnetic sensor and worked their way to another room, but the motion sensor set off the alarm.

pretty scary stuff right here, my parents think we will be next or something and forcing me to sell a lot of my rifles. i dont get it.

A few years back, every house on my street got broken into in a two month time period. Every house but mine that is. The difference?

Dogs.

I have two big Labrador Retrievers that are in the house at all times. We have a dog door so they can go outside as necessary. Labs as rule are not violent, but any dog is protective of his territory when the master is away. Mine are very protective of the house when I'm away. I found this out when I returned home one day and both dogs happened to be outside. My female came in, walked past me, stopped, turned around and gave a very low growling woof with hackles raised. Then she realized it was me and all was well. :)

A thief who really wants your stuff won't be bothered by dogs. But the average crackhead/punk kid will think twice and usually move on to another house.

Oh, and after all the break-ins happened, all my neighbors got dogs. Now almost no one gets robbed.

that is a good idea, i am looking for a doberman or rottweiler. really prefer the doberman look. been looking for them on craigslist and petfinder. no luck yet

There's a lot of probably unintended humor in that map. Thanks for posting it, I got a good laugh.

As to the burglars, that neighborhood doesn't look like the classic "lookout" scenario, so I'm guessing it's a local kid emulating his idols. Probably the one in the house with the big red "X marks the spot" on it. The one who trespasses on others' land.

Optex driveway alarms work really nice at detecting intruders or persons on your property before they get into your home. I have had them for the last 20 years and I twarted 2 attempts of theft on my property. You can put multiple sensors on 3 zones. I got mine at www.homesecuritystore.com

Also, you better check with your home owners insurance about the dog option; some don't insure households with certain breeds. Chose your breed, then do some basic bite work discreetly; you can usually find a local schutzhund club decoy and pay him cash for basic bite training.
