Two questions about Colt Pythons

This is regarding current production.

1. Do they come drilled & tapped for an optic?

And,

When they came out again they had a lighter mainspring that sometimes would not ignite less-sensative primers. My King Cobra is like this, so I reload with Federal primers, have no problems, and love the trigger just the way it is.

I've read that now Pythons (all of them?) have a heavier mainspring that ignites all primers but sacrifices the lighter trigger pull. I don't want that, I want the lighter trigger.

I'm talking about the DA trigger pull only. I couldn't care less about the SA trigger pull.

2. Do all Pythons now come with a "heavy" mainspring and heavier trigger pull?

1....No they are not drilled and tapped.

2. Colt had to upgrade the spring after customer complaints of miss-fires, especially with Magnum primers, and Armscor ammunition.
They all come with the new spring.

If you want a lighter-better trigger, send it to Heffron Precision....They're doing New Python trigger jobs that give a better SA and DA then the original Python. and are reliable........

Thanks.

I'd change the spring to a lighter one, if available, before sending the gun out to a place not within driving distance.

That's too bad about not being drilled for an optic. Wouldn't cost much for them to have done this and then offer a mount to sell.

Hum new python is 15 bills. I bet it is right with any primer.

I need to look but is it drilled and tapped for a rail.

This would be the answer. I just last week shot one of these, and both the DA and SA were spectacular. Heffron advertises an 2.75 pound SA trigger and a slicked-up 8.75 in DA, with a much quicker trigger return, (I can vouch for that) quite the improvement. For only $210.

I will say that I bought one early "new" Python (six inch) with a really nice trigger (2020), then another six inch a year and a half later, this trigger in DA noticeably heavier. When I found my four-incher in late 2021, the trigger in DA was heavier than I expected, but quite smooth. I have had zero ignition problems with a wide variety of .357 and .38 in any of my new Pythons, but probably will go with a trigger job on the four-incher shortly.

It sounds like Colt has used two different main springs.

Perhaps If I get a heavy one they'd sell me light one?

I wonder if this has been an issue for Anacondas? Probably not because most are going to fire SA.

Colt doesn't sell any parts, they just direct you to Brownell's or Midway, who they sell factory parts through. They seldom have any Colt parts.
In any case Colt isn't selling any lighter springs since they were proved to give unreliable ignition.
