I've heard of folks replacing the mainspring in their GP-100s for a lighter DA trigger pull. Is it possible to do this without lessening ignition reliability at all? Even on hard primers?

If so, what is the recommended spring replacement weight? Does Ruger just over spring these things or should I stick to the factory weight for utter reliability?

Thanks a million.

The recommendations I've read from Ruger smiths is a 10 pound hammer spring. I replaced mine with a 10# Wolff spring, and I still get 100% ignition. I haven't tried the next lightest- I don't feel the need.

I followed the advice of a gunsmith who posts frequently on the Ruger forum under the name Iowegan. He recommends a 12 lb hammer spring and a 10 lb trigger return spring from Wolff. This worked well for me, along with some further advice from Iowegan regarding polishing of certain parts. In particular, the edges of the hammer strut that rides inside the hammer sping (mainspring) has rough edges that create a gritty feel when firing double action.
