Note that this involves a female shooter. Good for her.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- An Arlington homeowner shoots an intruder after finding him in her closet just hours after police attempted to pull the man over for a traffic stop.

...

"She had let her dogs out to go to the bathroom and noticed there were muddy footprints leading into her house," said Doug Depoma, with the Arlington Police Department. The woman "searched her house and located him inside a closet near the front door."

Good for Her.

Now before a lot of armchair commandos start criticizing her for not just calling 911 and staying out of the house, remember this is a Texas woman.:D

Kinda like shooting fish in a barrel, but a little more sporting. You gotta love Texas...BANG "Who goes there?!".

Good for her.

Great majority of boston men can't even begin to claim measuring up to a Texas woman. Too much quiche, and being around kerry and kennedy sucks the manhood right out of them.

Hey, just asking for clarification...

I don't think I'll answer that.:D

When still working I was away from home a week at a time.
My Wife came home one evening and all the lights were out. She had left two on.
This was before concealed carry but we carried 1903 Colts in the cars and She had gotten Her's from the glove box.
When She opened the door the two dogs greeted Her so She was pretty sure nothing was wrong. She cleared the house anyhow.
It turned out that the two light bulbs had blown at the same time.

I was proud of Her but I told Her She should have gotten a neighbor friend as backup.:)

Hey

Hey there are a few of us in Boston who aren't Kerry weenies.
However, I had to move here from Texas to help even things out.:D

Reminds me of the following story:

An Arizona family came home to find their front door open. Sure that they had locked it before leaving, they backed off and called the police. A cop entered the house and found an intruder, naked, hiding in the front closet. The man eluded the police officer and ran out the front door. Seeing the police car at the curb and apparently unsure if there were other police in the area, he turned and jumped over a tall wood fence into the neighbor's yard.

Unfortunately, he had not "cased" the area sufficiently, so he had not learned that the neighbor was well known throughout the southwest for his large and magnificent cactus collection.

Ouch!

Jim - :D :neener:

Reminds me of a similar situation in South Africa, some years ago. An intruder entered a house naked, and tried to assault and rape a lady in one of the bedrooms. Unfortunately, he didn't know that the lady's brother lived there too - and the brother played international rugby for South Africa, and was large, muscular and hairy. Trying to escape the rain of punches and kicks, the would-be rapist ran out of the front door and jumped over the neighbor's wall... right into the teeth (literally) of the two Rottweilers who lived with the neighbor. By the time the police got there, there was blood everywhere, and the felon died on the way to hospital from shock and blood loss.

I love happy endings... :D

(giggling) you see why I'm so proud??? :D

+1 for the lady, -1 for the dogs..come on dogs! watch the house! :scrutiny:

I heard the lady being interviewed in a news clip earlier today on a Dallas radio talk station. That is pretty stupid on her part to explain what happened and how she shot someone. No matter what happens or how the scenario goes, you NEVER make a statement to the press. They don't care; they just want the next story.

And, your comments can later be used against you, even in a civil lawsuit.

:D Funniest thing I've read all day. LMAO.

I was suprised to hear that although charges won't be pressed against her, that it will still be heard by a grand jury. Why? Did the news just get that wrong or what?
Be a shame if this happened to that guy robbing all those appartment dwellers with the shotgun.

This isn't very far from where I live. I love the local headline:

Pistol-Packing Grandmother Shoots Intruder

ARLINGTON, Texas - A woman found evidence on her porch that someone might have broken into her house when she let her dogs out for a walk early Wednesday morning. The woman's granddaughter also said she heard noises from inside the house. Susan Gaylord Buxton, 66, retrieved her .38 caliber handgun and searched her house. She found a man hiding in a closet, covered by a coat.

The man, 22-year-old Christopher Lessner, lunged for the gun, and, police said, Buxton shot him once in the leg. She fired a second shot, which missed, according to police.

"She had let her dogs out to go to the bathroom and noticed there were muddy footprints leading into her house," said Doug Depoma, with the Arlington Police Department. The woman "searched her house and located him inside a closet near the front door."

Buxton, who was a license for the weapon, said she feared for her safety and that of her 28-year-old granddaughter.

"He was 6 feet tall," she said. "He could have done something horrible my granddaughter and me. That's exactly the reason you need to learn how to handle (a firearm) and keep it with you."

Arlington police attempted to pull over Lessner near Interstate 30 and Fielder Road in briefly after 11 p.m. Tuesday. Lessner drove the car to a dead-end road and fled into a nearby neighborhood.

Police began canvassing the neighborhood near the 1700 block of Northhaven Court on foot as well as by air.

At about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a 911 call of a shooting at a residence. The homeowner told police she found someone hiding in her house and shot him in the leg.

Lessner ran from the woman's house and was found at about 3 a.m. a few houses away hiding underneath a patio deck, police said.

He was arrested and transported to an area hospital, where he is being treated for a gunshot wound.

Buxton was not injured in the incident.

Arlington police said Lessner is expected to be charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest, criminal mischief and criminal trespass. Buxton was not expected to face charges.

For anyone who thinks that you should wait for the police, the last time I called police in this area and reported a gunshot, it took them 22 minutes to show up. I'm pretty sure they were all to busy writing tickets.

I was suprised to hear that although charges won't be pressed against her, that it will still be heard by a grand jury. Why? Did the news just get that wrong or what?

I used to work at a newspaper. There are pressing deadlines to be met by people writing stories about subjects in which they themselves are not expert. You review the notes that you took the night before, you get details wrong, you try to call again the people you interviewed to try to make sure that you get it right, but they're out of the office, they don't call you back, and then your editor walks into the room and yells, "Budget!" That's it, it's time to turn in whatever you got and cross your fingers.

I remember one homicide in which the assailant took an axe and killed her neighbor (42 blows). The assailant had been having an affair with the dead woman's husband, although the affair was over at the time of the homicide. After the homicide, the assailant washed up, left the scene, and then went on to play bridge.

Open and shut case or murder, right? That's how the papers portrayed it.

She was charged with murder. She pled not guilty by reason of self-defense. The jury heard the evidence, and voted not guilty. The townspeopel who relied solely on newspaper accounts were outraged at this "miscarriage."

True story that was made into a movie. "Evidence of Love" s the titled of the film.

The legal system cannot properly adjudicate cases based on news articles. Run it past a grand jury, and let the grand jury decide whether a crime was committed. If they no-bill her, then she will not have that shadow hanging over her.

I watched this a couple times today. Talk about good PR for concealed carry.:)

They played the 911 tape. The daughter was talking to the operator and you could hear the second shot, the one that missed.

The lady was talking about liking her 38.
(but she needs more practice, one in the leg and the second shot a miss:D )

Fox TV news did good, even said the NRA had already contacted her for the story.

I heard she said she hit him in the leg because she was aiming for the leg. but who knows.

That's what she said.
The first news report I saw didn't include her saying that. In the later news she said just that, she shot him in the leg because she wanted to.

The 911 tapes are classic where you can hear her telling the 911 operator that the police had better get there fast or he (BG) was a dead man.
(I taped some of it. I'd like to have the whole interview)

But she did miss the second shot.:D

Then the 911 operator saying, don't shoot him anymore.

Tough Granny. Cussing and shooting and cussing and shooting.:D

Here's a link to a page with the story complete with 911 audio.

Even has a link to a blog reminding people you don't need a permit to shoot intruders; permit required only if you intend to carry.

I love this state.
