Training is important for gun safety

Training for Real.

What you do in training, you do in real life-Period! This is one of those "Laws of Nature" that cannot be argued or by-passed.

If you fail to train - you will fail in whatever it is you're trying to do. Never accept “Being Lucky” or “Being a Natural.” They only enhance what you've been training already. In some areas of life if you don't train you lose. In the area of gun safety if you don't train you could possibly die, injure someone else or just be a bad example for others to follow.

A gun is a tool. It has no thought process. The gun doesn't decide to hurt someone. It is the careless actions of others that can cause harm.

There are basic fundamentals in gun safety that all persons should be familiar with and those who use guns need to be proficient at:

1. Always check the gun to make sure it's not loaded (except when firing it, of course).

2. Always keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot the gun.

3. Make sure you know what's behind your target and beyond.

4. Always point the gun in a safe direction.

5. Handle all guns as though they are loaded and ready to fire.

6. Thoroughly check the gun to make sure it's in proper working order.

7. Know how to use the gun.

8. Be sure to use only the correct ammunition.

9. Keep guns unloaded until ready to use.

10. Always wear eye and ear protection.

If you have never used a gun and are interested in learning or want to learn more, find a knowledgeable coach to help you master the fundamentals. Once you've learned the fundamentals it's time to put them to work. Go to the range! In a controlled environment such as an indoor range, you can maintain your focus on all the safety procedures you've learned without having to worry about the rain, wind, hot sun or every now and then a snow storm.

Once you've mastered the fundamentals of gun safety and operation of a gun you are using, or guns, in general, you can proceed to enhance your training.

The type of shooting you wish to do will determine the type of training you will need. If you're not sure what type of training you need, call someone who is experienced with firearms and have them guide you in the right direction.

You're only as good as your training so train and be safe!
