Anyone here familiar with an Uberti Hawken, .50 caliber? I'm looking at one I found, I may buy it for a christmas gift.
What's a reasonable price, it's in near new shape, looks great. It's a basic design, so hopefully the Uberti functions well too.
I believe Uberti made two Hawken style rifles. Both were available in .50 and .54 cal. I've never owned or shot one but have seen them at auctions and gun shows on occasion.
The Hawken was available in flint or percussion lock with a 32 inch octagon blued steel barrel. The St. Louis Hawken was only made with a percussion lock, with a 32 inch octagon barrel that was damascus steel IIRC. Both had double set triggers.
The Fifth Edition of Allen's Blue Book of Modern Black Powder Arms lists both at $400 in 100% condition, $245 in 90% condition. I usually find the book values to be a bit high.
