Uberti revolver firing pin hole problem

There was another thread on this forum that talked about Uberti firing pin holes burning threw. I had a similar incident recently with two Uberti 1873 Gunfighters (they are very similar to the Cattleman model). I was not having any problems with them before I sold them. I sold these guns to a person on the SASS Wire and he had trouble with the primers not reseating after being fired. I didn’t look close enough at the guns when he returned them and gave him his money back. Had I looked close I would have seen that he took a Dremil tool to the blast shield and tried to cut a ramp into the blast shield from the firing pin hole to about half way to the where the next cylinder would be. I suppose he was trying to get the primers to reseat using this ramp. I could not get Taylors to guarantee them because of his dremil work.

To fix this problem I took them apart and sent them to a place that does precision laser welding. They laser welded the dremil marks and the area around the firing pin hole. They told me that this weld is actually stronger then the original metal.

I had a local gunsmith dress the welds on the blast shields to regain the proper head space and make them look pretty again. This whole event cost me another $300 to get them fixed. I have fired about 75 rounds threw each with out any problems. They should give many years of dependable service.

Here are some before and after pictures. If anyone else has had a similar experience with Uberti revolvers I would like to hear about it.

I have no idea if this is related. Primers will back out of their pockets as much as the recoil shield and firing pin will allow, the firing pin and recoil puts these primers back in a bit. Very low pressure rounds may not generate enough recoil for this to happen.

If the guy took to the guns with a dremel I'd have told him it's his problem. Don't know what you should do, is it still dropping primers or is it fixed after the weld job?

If I had looked closely at the guns before I refunded his money I would have done just that. Now that they are welded the are working great. I fired 75 rounds threw each without any problems. I have them for sale on the SASS wire but I put a full disclosure statement about what has been done to them and I think it is scaring off any potential buyers.
