I bought a box of ultramax .308 110gr ammo the other day. I liked the idea of having the option of a lighter, faster round from my .308 for deer hunting, but figured a bullet that light would shoot like crap, especially with the 11.25" twist my .308 has. Well, it turns out it shoots great and is cheap to boot($18.99/20). My question is, is the bullet usable for hunting, or is it a match bullet? The box just says "110gr sierra HP". So is that a game king, match king or what???

More of a varmiting round (may fragment rather than expand/penetrate), not to mention being Ultramax, one always runs the risk of popping their gun open, sorry to say. For a darn good value on factory loaded ammo for deer, try to track down (or Internet purchase) Federal's line of Fusion ammuntion. Ive used their .357 on deer and its a good round, I can imagine good usage in rifle calibers as well.

OK thanks.
2 more questions:

what do you mean by this-
one always runs the risk of popping their gun open

And also, Hornady makes a 110gr loading in their TAP line of ammo....is that usable for deer hunting?

None of this is really necessary, my gun shoots federal 165gr gamekings into .5" at 100yds, just wondering if I can use a lighter bullet and get a flatter trajectory.
