Ultramax Remanufactured Ammo

Any one have any experience with Ultramax Reman. Ammo?

Natchez has a box of 50 9mm w/ Gold Dot bullets for $4.95.

Speer Gold Dots are about $10 for only 20.


Is this stuff too good to be true?

It shoots okay. No problems with feeding or accuracy. I don't have a chronograph so I can't comment on consistency of loads. The only bad thing is it is the dirtiest ammo I have ever shot. It will turn your gun, you, and any thing you touch black. Cleans up pretty easy so I don't really mind.
Shoot well and often.

I shot 1 box of their 38 swc ammo. It looked like I was shooting black powder. And a pain to clean up after. I don't use their ammo anymore.

I have shot quite a bit of it in 223 (handgun 223) and it was good ammo. Mixed brass and all it managed to shoot a lot better than the military ball types. I was getting about 2 1/2" at 100 yards with my Contender with the 55 grain softpoints and a hair better with the HP in the same weight.

I have shot a lesser amount in 357 mag with jacketed bullets and it too was decent. Some of the brass had made quite a few trips to the range apparently but it shot pretty well.

I bought some a few years ago when I first got my Kimber. Some of the rounds where severly bulged and didn't chamber, bad QC. I won't be buying more.

U-MAX Cowboy loads seem to be alright, and consistant. I've purchased .380 and .223 from U-max, never a complaint. No misfires, bulged cases etc.

The local Dick's Sporting Goods was running a sale today on Ultramax. I picked up a 200 round box of .38 Special LSWC, and ran over half through my Model 15 and GP-100 this afternoon. It was $29.95 + tax for the box.

I didn't chrono the ammo but it seemed pretty consistent, judging by the recoil. Whatever lubricant they have on the bullets was very smoky, and my guns got quite dirty. They were easy to clean off, however.

I'd buy it again.

My sheriff's office used to use it for qualifications in various handgun calibers and in .223. I found that by sorting headstamps I could attain sub-one inch groups from various AR15s. I went to privately purchasing it for my own use. I CAN handload somewhat better ammo, but it is not worth my time and effort.

I never used any of their lead bullet ammo, so cannot speak to the"dirty" aspect of that. All I ever used was jacketed - - Either auto or revolver.

AND - -The price of their .223 is quite reasonable - - somewhere around $15 for a 50-round box. I usually buy two to four boxes at a time, to maximize my chances of sorting out a couple of boxes of identical headstamps.
