I have an ultrasonic cleaner that I use for jewelry and have also used it for cleaning pickup brass. This model also heats the solution while cleaning.
Was wondering if it could be used to clean small gun parts such as BCG's (detail stripped) or pistol slides. And what would be a good solution to use for that type of cleaning, (carbon and brass transfer)?
TIA

Ultrasonics work very well for gun parts.

Solutions can range from cheap paint thinner, to a soap cleaner like Simply Green or Greased Lightning, to Cylinder & Slide Shops "Dunk-Kit" that's a cleaner that leaves a lubricant on the parts. This eliminates having to rinse the cleaner off and apply a rust preventing lube everywhere.

Ultrasonics will not do a good job of cleaning leading and will not remove copper fouling or hard carbon deposits.
Even a soap based cleaner will eventually remove painted sight dots and safety marks, and an ultrasonic cleaner will remove them almost instantly with many solvents.

Remember that ultrasonics will remove ALL lubricant and parts will rust unless you're careful to get a fresh coat of lubricant into all areas.
The Cylinder & Slide cleaner does this as part of the process.

hello
i clean all of my brass with the ultrasonic cleaner , even did so with some gunparts.
they all came out exellent.
i use a household cleaner that was intended as a glasscleaner as i tried a lot of stuff , this was the best i found.
i also use put some vinager with the glasscleaner.
watch out with blued parts as the bleuing will be removed.

I use it for my .40 barrel and AR bolt, in ed's red. It does remove carbon and lead residue.
