I'd LOVE to see this happen. A few months ago I spent a good while on the phone with Governor McCrory's senior advisor on jobs and the economy (after spending an hour or more with various agencies finding out who I really needed to speak with), discussing firearms companies and their apparent willingness to move to other states. I had a list, and he was very interested. I can't claim anything at all came of that conversation, but I sure hope it moved things along :D.

Unknown gun manufacturer eyes North Carolina for relocation
WRITTEN BY: BOB

There are at least a dozen gun companies considering leaving the Northeast because of their absurd gun laws. One of them is testing the waters in Rockingham County [NC]… but who?

No one seems to know: http://www.newsadvance.com/rockingh...cle_2d90250e-d2b7-11e2-a93c-001a4bcf6878.html

The Rockingham County Partnership for Economic and Tourism Development and the Town of Mayodan announced Tuesday that an industry-leading firearms company is trying to determine if the Western Rockingham area would be the right location for a new manufacturing plant.

Eastern NC has lost a HUGE amount of manufacturing in the past two decades. In my county alone there are millions of square feet of empty industrial buildings available. Filling some of that space, and the jobs it would bring, would be a great boon to the area.

And if those jobs involve manufacturing firearms, ammunition etc - so much the better.

Eastern NC could definitely use the jobs. Coming from the Charlotte area to the East was a huge difference. Lots of land to build factories too.

I know I.O. Inc is in Monroe, but it would be nice to have a "serious" and respected gun manufacturer in the state.

I know Ruger is building a facility in TX. My guess is S&W. Whichever company it is, the employees are lucky if they have an opportunity to leave the Northeast and move to NC.

I hope some of these companies will consider Kansas. We have been working hard in our state to attract business. According to the national Chamber of Commerce which assesses states as to how "business-friendly" they are assesses Kansas as #11, which is a big improvement from the previous ranking of #26. This because of an aggressive campaign by Governor Sam Brownback. We came very close to being in the top 10 which is a golden credential for business to consider . Just this week our governor signed a new tax bill into law with the eventual goal of completely eliminating the state income tax. States like NY are losing their ability to compete.

loose noose...I heard today that Colt has allready moved to Florida, has anybody else heard that or is that old news?!

I had NOT heard that, can you give a source? I hope it's true!

Walter

Colt has not moved to FL. They have a small building there which based on reports to date is not utilized for anything. There have been no press reports that Colt is moving anywhere. The talk was that they might build revolvers there or some new firearm.

I would not be surprised to see Remington expand further in NC.

Why do states court manufacturers to relocate? Jobs! For instance... (and I hope this search is persistent)

ETA: Hmm. Those references all link to Remington's corporate site in Madison, NC, and that site seems not to be responding. Maybe some database work this morning? I don't know. http://www.remington.com/en/pages/our-company/our-company/company-info/corporate-headquarters.aspx is the corporate site.

But some further looking around yielded this article from last year:

Remington Arms Co., the shotgun and shooting sports manufacturer, has scouted the Charlotte area for a site that could eventually house its headquarters, according to sources familiar with the search.

Not just jobs.....

there are major political points to be had from the gun lobby and its supporters for drawing in a firearms company. firearms and RKBA are a flashpoint and any politician who is a 2A supporter only strengthens his or her political standing with a major demographic by bringing in a gun company. jobs yes, but politics also....

Barretta is looking to move some of their operations from Maryland after they passed their latest rediculous feel good gun laws.
Some operations have to remain in MD due to exisiting state contracts, other divisions will be heading out-of-state.

States want manufacturing for the jobs, and additional tax base. Also, manufacturers are huge multipliers of jobs as they always require suppliers, and services, so it is not just those manufacturing jobs, it is many others.

I would love to see others due what Magpul is doing by leaving Colorado. Places like the northeast, CA, etc are losing jobs daily, and not just because of 2A issues, it is due to high operating costs, over regulation, etc. These states have been shooting themselves in the feet for decades.
