Been hitting a few of the classifieds sections on a few different forums lately. Why is it that people will post a used gun for sale and be asking more than what new ones are listed for on GunBroker, AuctionArms, etc. ? Let's see...I can buy a used one for less money at my local shop or a used one pay s/h and transfer fees...Hmmmm
I'm just amazed that these people think thier used guns are worth so much. :banghead:
Also get a kick about how just changing out a few springs in the trigger or adding a flash hider makes the gun "custom"

As long as there are the suckers out there who will keep paying inflated prices, sellers will keep selling at inflated prices.

Yeap, I'm seeing the same way up here in Maine!
Most prices I've seen in the weekly swap magazine and the last two gun shows I've been to prices seen very high and don't appear to be
coming down!!! The cheapest AR-15 at Waterville , ME was $750.
or an Olympic, Bushy's still over $1000., I check a LOT of dealers in a
50 mile radius slightly better but only by $50. bucks or so!
AND SO MUCH FOR THE POST BAN ERA PRICING, on "Lowers" prices
now up $25. to $50. depending on brand........

Check out Bud's Gun Shop in Paris, Kentucky, they often list items on Gun Broker. I've been looking at .45 Blackhawks and they seem to want $300 to $400 for them used. You can buy a new one from Bud's for just over $300!

Once upon a time, sellers wanted to buy, sell, and swap. I think they're now content to wait for suckers with more money than brains.

It's always worth your while to send the seller an E-mail message with an offer below the asking price: at the worst, you'll be told "No" and have wasted five minutes of your time.

I've had better success right here at the High Road than the regular on-line auction sites.

There are a lot of factors in pricing a firearm. Desirability, availablity, and location plays a big part in the internet sales.
Certain older models are sought after and the newer counterpart is ignored. What may be plentiful and therfore cheaper around you may be scarce somewhere else and carry a higher price tag. If you live in a high cost of living area then your firearms sell more than an area where the money is not as plentiful.
Like every other item for sale you have to shop around.

The way I see it and have experienced, those prices are usually negotiable. Do some research, and suggest an offer. Many times, the seller will agree to the price you've just offered if its in reason.

It never hurts to ask or negotiate. Its just an asking price after all.

Private sales mean PRIVATE

No paperwork, no record of transfer, nothing. Don't believe for a second that isn't worth something to those of us who fear seizure. And to others who are proscribed by law from a shop purchase.

I know what you mean. The Waterville show was the worst show I've been too in a long time. Little to see and all too pricey. Wasted 2 hrs driving time. Not as bad as the southern NH shows but pretty bad.
Uncle Henry's is a joke for finding good prices.

I'm guessing location has a bit to do with some asking prices but c'mon. I was offered a firm price for a used gun that was $75 MORE than what I paid for the same one new. Blamed it on being in CA.

Not necessarily true in all places. I may be wrong, but I think in Maryland even if it's a private sale you still have to do it thru a licensed dealer or the State Police.

Like he said, there's a sucker born every minute... :p

A pawn shop I used to frequent (just to talk with a neighbor of mine) bought guns at 1/3 the book value or less. But some of the guns he wanted outrageous prices for. Had a Walther 22 with just the short barrel, one mag and no box for I thin $409. And a well-used Single Six with just the 22LR cylinder and a cheap Simmons red dot sight for about $369.

This is the same shop that offered me $120 for a blued and polished Wingmaster with smoothbore and rifled barrels in about 98% condition. A guy in the store offered me $350 about two minutes later.

At the same time, I picked up a 6" 629 with a cheesy shoulder holster for $250 when the guy that owned the place told him he could only give him $150 for it. I told him I'd give him another $100 if he really wanted to sell it. Then I sold it to a friend about three days later for $400.

I honestly don't even get upset at all when I see unrealistic prices... just less competition for me. :D
