Under appreciated rifle?

Somebody has to say it:

SKS. Especially the Yugo. Minimal recoil, decent round, great price. Still derided in Some Circles as Commie Trash.

Arisaka's made before or very early in WW II. I've seen one or two beautiful sporterized examples, and Ackley found them to be the strongest military bolt action in his tests.

I'll second the vote for early WWII Arisakas, they are great rifles that can handle some pretty intense reloads. I think they got a bad rep because some of the late war cheap manufactured ones were junk. Schmidt Rubin K31s are pretty great rifles, but I'm partial to Swiss firearms.

I think the Ruger No. 1 gets a lot of bad press it doesn't deserve. It has its shortcomings, but it is a fine hunting rifle.

Edit: I think I would like to add the Martini-Henry to the list. It's not that anyone really hates them, it's just that you can't find good reproductions. And I do agree that the Enfield variants are pretty under appreciated. I really think they were the best of the military bolt action rifles for handling and aiming.

Maligned, and no they aren't. Everyone loves them as target rifles.

I think the most looked-down-upon rifle with an undeserved reputation is probably the MAS-36 or Lebel.

AR-15. That's right, I said it.

The reason why? Because of what civilians say about the rifle. If I had a dime for every time I've heard someone complain about the reliability of it on here, I'd drop out of high school. There is no reason that a civilian on here can't maintain an AR-15. Period. You're not dragging the rifle through dust and grime. You're taking it to the range. Then some armchair commando comes on here and complains about its reliability.

Swede 96. Needs lots of love, for the great accuracy in a military rifle.
I let it shoot a nice antelope for me yesterday. Superb!

Underrated as in rated, but rated lower than it deserves -- I'd say the SKS followed by the Yugo Mausers.

Most others mentioned like the Arisaka, K31 and various Enfields, may not gete "rated (talked about) much, but they get high rating when they do.

Monkey-wards model 35 shotgun...oh wait, you want a rifle? I'd say probably something by charles daly.

Rifles can't be all bad can they?

As far as underrated I know I've had a bunch of friends, (not on here) comment on my choice of a 45-70Marlin for an elk hunt. It feels like a shotgun but could reach out and touch someone. One of my favorite rifles. Just wish it wasn't so expensive to shoot! :cuss:

CZ's. When I picked mine up at the store I heard several people whisper to eachother "what is a CZ". It is also kind of a good thing because it keeps a lot of people from buying them and driving up th price.

Enfield 2A and 2A1. Good shooting rifles with a 12 shot capacity and bores that are like new. Of my milsurps, only my K31 and M39 shoot better.
