Undershirt holster, any good?

Years ago I tried one of the then new undershirt holsters from Kramer to carry a small Beretta auto. I did not like it. It did not support the gun very well, it flopped around.

Has anyone tried one of these or perhaps a copy from someone else and if so did you like it or not?

I bought one of those "Kangaroo" holsters in the larger "air marshal" model and have been happy with it. It supports the weapon well (A CZ75 PCR) and offers excellent concealment. The fastest I've ever been able to bring the gun to an aiming stance, though, is about five seconds. I expected that when I bought it. My reasoning is that I'd be armed, so when situational awareness suggested a threat, I'd have it more available, ie, stuck in my belt, or actually "in hand". Most CC'ers disagreed with my reasoning when I consulted the forums prior to purchase, but I've been pleased with my decision.

I once read the advice to purchase such a holster one size smaller than your normal size, to minimize shifting on your body. I think it is very good advice from that standpoint, but it seems likely to be uncomfortable.

Another type of holster that works substantially the same (but carries the gun lower) is the "belly band." This would have the advantage of being adjustable and therefore more comfortable.

Backup Gun Holsters

Backup guns are like insurance policies...they seem to be a waste of money and time until you need it.

There are lots of holsters out there that I've tried over the years, including ankle and shoulder holsters, and haven't found one more comfortable and accessible than a vest holster that attaches to your vest cover. It also comes with a ballistic fragmentation plate that covers your gun to prevent injuries from ricochets and bullet fragments. It would be worth your while to visit the web site at www.bugpocket.com. Also, there's a story on www.policemag.com that talks about a San Diego officer who was shot three times before using his backup gun to kill the suspect.

Combine the "belly band" with shoulder straps provides a good compromise. I've found mine very comfortable for daily use with my Kahr PM40. YMMV, of course.

I think the 5.11 Tactical undershirt is one of the better quality undershirt/holster type products out there. That being said, it is hot in the summer and expensive since you need more than one if you carry this way most of the time. It fits tight as it should to keep the gun from flopping around too much. For me, it's more comfortable than the 4" elastic bellyband type holsters that squeeze you in a concentrated area. I just can't get use to them.

I've carried everything from a SIG 226 to a PPK in the Kramer shirt.

One size smaller than your normal size helps dramatically with stability and isn't uncomfortable.

These are like ankle holsters: after a week you'll either forget it's there or hate it.
