Some governors have staunchly refused to and others have changed their opinions about closing gun stores in this challenging time. I first read about the Governor of Illinois in the face of criticism insisting that gun stores were critical in this emergency. On Monday past the Governor of PA (my State) reversed his order and exempted gun stores from the closure list. I live 3 miles north of the DE/PA state line. I read today that the Governor of Delaware has also reversed his decision to close gun stores. Besides keeping the availability of guns intact these kinds of actions have an extremely important additional benefit in the fight for 2A Rights.
In PA, and from what I have read, the majority of people in other states buying guns have never owned a gun before. The number of NICS applications has increased 4 fold in March. So what does that mean and why is it a boost to 2A Rights.
It means that more and more people are beginning to realize that they cannot count on police response in critical times, and that danger lurks in times like these when needs might not be met. They realize that the only person you can count upon to defend yourself and your families is you. Those people are now 2A supporters in the truest sense. They want to own guns because they fee the need to own guns.
There is a collateral benefit too. As the news media reports the exclusions of gun stores from the shutdown lists because they are critical the people get a direct message. When push comes to shove the rhetoric of the anti gun folks has failed. State governments are rejecting their arguments and recognizing the right the people to defend themselves.
I would like to make a list of States that have not compelled the closing of gun stores or who have reversed a prior decision to do so. Please post what the state of affairs is in your state. I will sort through all the responses and make a list. Once I have that I can use it for future advocacy, which is a directionI am headed in. Thank you,
