My friend at the LGS sold me a used 22 revolver which turned out to be quite inaccurate. He offered to make it right via trading towards another pistol. Apparently he had over-ordered P09's and was willing to make a deal. I ended up with one NiB. Has anyone out there owned a P09 and is willing to pass along information and/or opinions?

The P-09 is a large, high capacity 9mm (or .40), and it's on my "to-buy" or "Trade for" list.

I've had a bunch of CZs, still have one (and two CZ pattern guns), and a P-07 (which is a compact version of the P09 [or the P09 is the full-size version of the P-07], whichI really like.

You could have done a LOT WORSE. The P-09 is not likely to be a great carry gun (i.e., it's large), but you will likely find that it's a great home defense or range gun.

(If you find you don't like it, let me know -- and maybe we can work out a trade!)

I don't own one but my brother does in .40. It is extremely accurate. The trigger had some creep, but a 'smith cleaned it up easily. A nice feature is that the decocker can be converted to be a conventional, 1911-ish safety.

The only thing I can say bad about any Cz is the warranty. Five years later I think Cz would probably still take care of any legitimate problems if any would ever occur. It's just nice to see "lifetime warranty" in your owners manual. Cz is my overall favorite handgun make. I plan on getting a p09 after I get a p01 omega

My third favorite pistol just behind my 75 and p220. Take that back, it's my favorite pistol...accurate, reliable, feels great in the paw. I'd love to add a p-07 to my FDE 09.

The stock trigger kinda sucks, but you can fix that with the CGW trigger kit. It's a duty size pistol and not conducive to conceal carry if that's a concern for you. If given the choice between the P-09 and the SP-01 I would opt for the SP-01 in a heartbeat. I have my P-09 primarily as a suppressor host and tuned to run with a suppressor. It has the CGW trigger/hammer kit in it and other than that it's stock-ish. Had to do some recoil spring tuning to get it to run right with the can on there. Did your LGS happen to have an SP-01 available ?

A little bit bigger than I need or want (with small size hands I'm much more comfortable with the P07), but the P09 should make for one great home defense and range gun.

"It didn't happen if there's no picture", so here is a quick cell phone pic I took just now. The P09 is a good fit for my very large hands. I also own a CZ83, a CZ70, and a Tanfoglio "clone" of a CZ75. I don't care for the CZ 70, but the other three are excellent pistols. I had already planned to go to the shooting range with my FiL on Tuesday, so I will get a chance to see how it shoots. I like the trigger and sights so far. This is the first pistol I have ever owned that has a rail on it, and also one of only two "plastic" pistols I own (the other is a P3AT). I will follow up with a range report after I try it out. It will really just be a "range toy", since I already have a half dozen or so CC handguns, and prefer a 357 revolver (and two enormous dogs) for HD.Thanks for all of the kind comments. :)

I had a P09 to go with my P07. I loved it but sold it on as I did not care for the extra-long grip and I felt it to be redundant in my collection.

I wish I wish I wish CZ would make a gun with the P09 slide and barrel but a P07-sized grip frame. Or that they had designed the P09 with a grip of similar length to the steel-frame CZ pistols, and if they wanted the big magazine, give it a big base plate a la the SP01.

OR, bring back the SP01 Phantom so I could buy one easily.

I've only had mine for a couple weeks, one range trip, but it worked perfectly for 150 rds of various cheep 9mm ammo. Accurate when I took the time to make it so. The DA pull is .... not great, but I think it may be smoothing out already.
As to the grip, this is where it get's weird for me - the flush mag holds 19 (so the grip should be plenty big), but this grip feels small to me - I've gone from the small to the medium backstrap and may try the large. This compared to my Glocks (gen 4) which I always leave alone without adding the larger backstraps. I think this may be because 1) the grip is actually narrower (I'll to get my micrometer on it to confirm) than normal and/or 2) the top of the CZ backstrap is below the web of your hand and doesn't change the 'reach' of the finger to the trigger.
I like the gun and I'm planning on keeping it, but it doesn't quite fit the hand like the metal-framed CZ-75 does

I bought one last year and have been pleased with it. I find it very pleasant to shoot and accurate.

The first 36 shots through the gun, from 10 yards. All fliers due to me.

It's larger than I'd want to concealed carry on my belt but it fits nicely in a Hill People Gear Original Kit Bag or Recon Kit Bag, for when I'm woodsbumming.

The one negative is that even with a MagLula, I find it difficult to fully load the magazines.

I'm shot virtually every plastic gun on the market (a lot through Glocks and M&Ps) and if I were going to shoot another plastic gun again, it would be a P09. In my opinion they are excellent.

-Mine is crazy accurate.
-Trigger isn't horrible out of the box, and from what I understand can be made race-ready via CGW
-Felt recoil... I shot it back to back with my old M&P 5" (competition gun that I shot for two years... so I'm very familiar with it), same ammo, same day... the P09 just recoils less and tracks flatter. And as mentioned, shoots a group much smaller.
-Factory stippling is perfection as far as I'm concerned
-Even the stock sights are semi-workable, but aftermarket is available there too.

You can have a great trigger, light weight, and very accurate, plenty of aftermarket support... I think it is a tremendous pistol.

I got a P07 gen 2 for carry; it isn't as crazy accurate as my P09, but all the other good stuff is there. I like it too.
