I have wondered WHY people put ads on Armslist if they are not going to get back with you.

More than once I have contacted an Armslist seller, they contacted me back, I try to arrange a meeting location to inspect and possibly buy the firearm, only to have the seller ignore me. I then had a guy text me back a week later telling me he was out of town and has decided to keep the firearm????!!!!!!

I was under the impression that a seller would want to sell the firearm. I guess ignoring a potential buyer is the best sales technique?

I'm done with my rant.

I've experienced the same thing myself. In many cases the seller sold the firearm and either forgot, or's too lazy to take down the ad.

If you really want to see the dark side of Armslist, try selling a gun there. I had one buyer try to convince me to sell him a gun without a BG check (now unlawful in WA) because on paper, in theory, he's a felon, but he really isn't, the government is simply confused about him :scrutiny:

There is no way to weed out the scammers. You wanted to meet, they didn't actually have the gun to sell so no way are they going to meet you.

I've sold quite a few on Armslist. I put in my ads that I only do face to face for CCW holders. So many here in Missouri have their CCW now it's not a problem.

I find selling easier than buying as I am willing to contact the person and arrange a place to meet.

I've seen a few flakes but it's been my overall experience that the vast majority of these guys are straight shooters. I've used arms list a lot in the last few years. Dozens of transactions and the worst I can say is 1 or 2 guys got cold feet. It is a far cry better than using Craigslist for anything.

I've had good luck with Armslist as both a buyer and seller. When I'm buying, I prefer listings that are well written and provide decent photos.

I only buy from those that want proof of age, residency and CCW license and I do the same when I'm selling.

Goodluck here as well. Weed out the scam ads and go with people that require ccw or verification of identity

I always note that I'll need to see ID and no felons. A felon generally won't be cool with a bill of sale either. I've had people back out over a bill of sale that I'm reasonably confident could have been trying to skirt the law.

I have had someone back out on me without even telling me and standing me up at the meeting location. He later tried to buy a gun from me instead (apparently not recognizing my number) and I sent him to the same place and left him sitting. He called and asked where I was so I told him I'd be a little late and then never went.

That's what you get for not having the courtesy to at least call when you back out of a sale.

I've had this happen so many times that I don't even mess with Armslist any more. The last straw was when I was looking for a Beretta 84, and there was a really nice one on AL. I asked if it had the box, etc, and heard nothing back. I asked again, and got nothing back. I went onto GB, and bought the one I have now, an 84BB in great shape.

If I'm not mistaken, listing on Arms List and Guns America is free, and that is the source of the problem... people respect time and resources that they pay for, but when it's free, they just throw "stuff" at the fan to see if anything sticks.

I have listed a few things on arms list. The two major problems I run into are scheduling a meeting time and some people responding to my ads go straight to my spam mail. I have learned to check my spam for possible responses. The only reason I will not respond to someone is if they offer me a super low ball price. For example I had a handgun that I listed for $700 obo. Had a person offer me $350. I didn't respond. I will answer to any reasonable offer. I have had people offer me a decent price, but live almost 75 miles away. I don't mind trying to meet people halfway, however if you are only willing to go across town, I may not be willing to drive to your location. I am also unwilling to ship my firearms. Ftf with state resident only.

Every Armslist deal (west TN only) went as planned, and each was a separate deal:

Sold a "W. Germany" Walther PPK/S, two Polish P-83s, a CZ-82 (also 9x18), Yugo Mauser, 3,000 rds. of CMP's M2 Ball (.40/rd., last month).
Bought a Mauser Hsc, Maadi "ARM", and a nice Mak 90 (two weeks ago).

All deals within the last two years, and no more than a two-hour drive. Several within 20 min., or one hour max.
One guy drove from Columbus MS to meet in Tupelo for the ammo in June. Nobody else wanted all of the nice M2 Ball at a steep discount (from todays's CMP price).
