Armslist taking members again

Yup, I don't buy a membership to spend money, not even Costco et. al. Gunbroker must be having a surge of activity since Armslist went to pay to buy.
You musty like paying FFL fees and shipping. And the government knowing your business. $7 is a lot less than that. Not saying I am crazy about it. Doesn't bother for selling though. As I said you have to pay to put an ad in the paper, some old guys should be able to relate to that.

A fee to list is kind of a no-brainer, a fee to ask or buy is not going to keep people around. Sounds like the Armslist people have no common sense. Scams? Use your common sense.

It's still free to browse, and there's no prohibition on putting email, phone or other contact info in your listing so that prospective buyers may contact you without purchasing a subscription. Of course, doing so opens you up to the tire kickers and scammers that were dissuaded by the fee, so that's a call you have to make.

I'll usually include my email, but get too many spam calls as it is, so they don't get a phone number until I believe they're serious buyers.

Oh good grief.:cuss:
Please retake 5th grade. The First Amendment is a restriction on GOVERNMENT, not a business.
If Armslist want to charge you .87 per word to ask a buyer or seller a question.....they can.
Its a bit more complex than that. It gets into the isue of Platform vs Publisher. One is liable for content and the other is not. One can curate content, the other is not supposed to.

Not really. A "Buyer/Seller" site does not conform enough to qualify for Section 230 Congressional protection. They are not a platform for social interaction per se. That's like comparing E-Bay to Facebook.

Nope, keep a balance in most banks and there are no fees. Not for checks, money orders, late fees, ATM transactions, or account maintenance, so I don't do Sam's or Costco.
So then, they merely hold a significant amount hostage, while they have the use of it.

Todd.

I wonder if 2 scammers ever scammed each other. that would be funny
I know of a couple criminals/rip off artists from my area, a popular thing to do around here because it's a mountain resort town and before the advent of the ring/wireless security cams was to hit empty condos on the mountain. It turns out one Saturday in the wee hours of the morning two knuckleheads decided to burglarize the same condo at the same time and bumped into each other in the dark. Kind of like "wth, mitch? Is that you?" "Oh hey brad, can you help me get this flat-screen out?"

They are both in jail, thankfully.

WOW! loose lips stinks ships

It's one of those things things that if you always had to pay, you probably wouldn't find a problem with paying $7 to participate in a vast firearms marketplace, but because you could always just get right in and had unfettered access to contact info, it was just beautifully streamlined and now there is an obstacle.

That's what would bother me most, I hate signing up for things and handing all my personal info out, the $7 is a pretty reasonable ask though. I have no use for armslist anymore, VT started UBC and it became a much less worthwhile endeavor. That bothers me more than the mag restriction honestly. I can make a pretty strong case for why UBC is bogus and should be tossed....

Facebook Marketplace doesn’t allow firearm posts do they?
Nope. They even flagged and removed a scope for violating their firearm restriction. Twice. The second time I listed it as a telescope instead of a rifle scope. Still removed.

Texas has texasguntrader
Georgia has www.theoutdoorstrader.com
I assume other states have sites as well.

Noticed a lot of sellers now putting their phone number down. Good deal for non fee paying interested buyers.....not sure how great of an idea that is for the seller putting their # on their..

Had one like that a little bit back where I work. 2 clowns show up at a meet to do would amount to an illegal sale, since in this state you have to use an FFL now. I have to guess one was planing to rob the other, they both ended up shooting each other. Unfortunately both of them will live to be a burden on the tax payers :(
I did have to say it made a lot of us laugh when we found out how they both got shot:rofl:

gunlistings.org does show more listings than before. I'm going to switch. I still have a few old active/inactive listings at Armslist that I can recycle until expire/locked. I put my contact email in my listing so interested buyers can contact me, received a few emails on my Armslist listings, majority still use Armslist's email system, people must be willing to pay, not worthwhile to me when they asked $4/month, not for $7/month for sure! Pay per listing would be fine and fair!

That’s a pretty broad statement. Are you saying the people that own/manage Armslist or general users like me?
Since I used a period and there is a word between Armslist people and the rest, pretty obvious I was talking about the Armslist people the Owners. Most users here are smart enough to avoid scams.

BTW I have used Guns America in the past.

Gun Broker charges 6% on item shipping and tax if any plus and how they feel that morning. For example a single $100 item plus shipping and new taxes could cost seller $11 in fees.

I'm fine with the new regulations on armslist, have bought and sold many guns with no issues... A few bucks a month for the site, no problem, I have received a lot less scammers email, but... Still get the obvious illegal people wanting guns or ammunition... Easy to spot...

I'm fine with the new regulations on armslist ...

At the risk of sounding like a broken record - As a seller you should not be happy with the fee requirement for a potential buyer who wishes to contact a seller with an inquiry. That is bad for sales , plain and simple.

Update: My account upgrade and fee payment from Thursday noon still has not been processed , and my email from Friday inquiring about that has not been answered.
I am willing to pay for a month of access as a seller , but man - this is ridiculous.
