I had asked about the life of a spring in a Bersa magazine held under pressure as a result of being loaded and ready to go. I received many good responses.

As it turns out, there is a little twist to the query. Took the new mag out yesterday to test it out. (just another excuse to shoot) It is supposed to hold 7 rounds. The spring is SO STRONG that it is all I can do to force 3 or 4 rounds into the magazine.

So, it seems like losing spring tension will be the least of my worries. I guess this will be my choice as "ready" mag if I can get at least 5 or 6 cartridges in it!:banghead:

That's where the once a month switch comes in handy. Gradually you'll find that ease of loading becomes less of an issue, once the things have had a break-in period. Leave the thing as is for a few days with 3 or 4 in it, and then you should have no problem loading 5 or 6 after that. You can gradually build up to the capacity you prefer it to have this way. Once you can get the # of rounds you want in the thing without the help of a 3-ton hydraulic press, then just do the monthly switch-out. It's worked for me for nearly 16 years now.

Try a magazine loader, no way should you be able to get only 3 or 4 rounds in there.

Newton, that's what I was thinking. No way I should be so much of a wimp as to not have the strength to push more than 3 down. That spring is really STRONG!
