UPDATE on tenn church shooting.

I attended a memorial service for the mother of a friend of the family at a UU church this past spring. I was armed. I saw no signs asking me not to be, and churches are not on the list of places proscribed by state law, so I was legal.

But -- I'm in one of those states where so few people seem to even be aware that there is such a thing as a concealed carry permit that I'm quite sure the notion of posting against it has never been raised.

The mind and life of a killer:

First of all, prayers need to go out to the victims and those church members impacted by the event.

Facts about the shooter: Jim Adkisson

-A member of the 101st Airborne Division, served beginning in 1974-1977 and discharged in 1980. He was a helicopter repairman.
-A truck driver, and has an associate's degree in mechanical engineering; last known employment was in 2006.
-Non member of the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church
-A good tenant who paid his bills.
-Obtained a letter from the state government telling Adkisson he was having his food stamps reduced or eliminated.
-Drinks heavily every day, and becomes belligerent, and makes threats.
-Had two instances of driving under the influence -- one in California and one more recently in Tennessee.
-Threatened to kill his fourth wife and himself.

Sounds like a regular Joe...besides being unable to be in a committed relationship, drinking problem and being frustrated with religious liberals.

You mean he attended the church, but wasn't a formal member? (Some churches have Membership with a capital M. Some don't.) Or do you mean he was not affiliated with the church in any way?

Or do you mean he was not affiliated with the church in any way?

Correct, in accordance to the news link. He "read" one of the church's policies and therefore made the rational decision to destroy the heathens.

But factor in his unemployed, financial hardship and relationship-challenged lifestyle.

Whatever happened to live and let live?

I'm sorry there was a bully in your kindergarten that took all the good toys when you went to play in the sandbox.
I'm sorry you had to sit with the uncool kids in high school.
I'm sorry you didn't get to go to the good college.
I'm sorry you didn't get the jobs you wanted because somebody's nephew had the inside track on the interview.
I'm sorry your 4th, 7th or 10th marriages didn't work out.

Bad things happen to all people from time to time. No reason is a good enough to take your misfortune and twist it into a weapon to make innocent people suffer.

Let this guy have his day in court, 10 years of appeals and then slip the needle into his arm and be done with him.

I'm pretty pleased with his mug shot.

Looks like the church members that tackled him whipped his ass pretty good. But they should have dragged him outside and hung him.
