I harped on Wilson a few weeks ago, when the issue wasn't their fault, and wanted to appologize for blaming them for something I caused. I have a Kimber UCII that would lock open with ammo in the mag, and Wilson Mags did help the frequency of the occurance, but still had a Pre lock, every 100 rounds or so. Well to get to the point.....I sent the mags back to Wilson Combat, along with a note of what caused the damage to the followers, and they did not warranty the damaged followers, but I didn't expect them to. I did pick up a few extra followers in case the new ones start chewing up again. The slide stop I am now running has more meat on it to catch the follower, and haven't had an early lock back, or a no hold open issue on empty, in 300 rounds. The actual culprit that ruined the followers was a small dimple in the slide stop face, that engages the plunger. I tried that to help with the early lock back, but the magazine spring-followers, couldn't overcome the resistance the dimple caused, and the followers just pushed pass the stop. Me slapping the empty mags into the pistol, and pulling the slide back to hold open without success, over and over, did them plastic followers no good;)

Glad everything is resolved.

If you ask me, I like the full skirt on the Wilson followers, and feel it provides a more uniform orientation against the inside surface of the mag as the follower advances. Or, it might just be my imagination.

In any event, a question: did Kimber ever formally acknowledge the out-of-spec slide stop problem by a formal recall? ... or just wait and field complaints on a less dignified one-on-one basis. Bad, Kimber.

Harvey,

Kimber said they wanted my gun back to fix it, claimed the replacement stop was modified, although it looked unmodded to me. Even a year out of warranty they said it was covered, which leads me to believe they know about the issue. Kimber did not want to send me a prepaid shipping label, however. I doubt they would fire a hundred rounds looking for the issue, either, so I just kept removing material off the stop to gain bullet clearance. No doubt that if it happens again, I will send it back. I really doubt its the stop, since I tried stops out of my S&W, and Springfield 1911s with the same results. The kimber stop did work fine in the other guns, too. The only other thing I replaced was the mag catch, and has run 100% since then.

Funny, I just called Kimber last month when my Pro TLE was locking back on a loaded mag and they just ent me a new slide stop. The problem with the out of spec slide stops on Kimber Pro and Ultra models is pretty common and Kimber seemed very aware when I spoke with CS.

Mags,

Did the new stop fix yours? I wasn't so lucky with the one they sent me. Kimber is fully aware of the issue, but not recalling them.

Yes, the new slide stop fixed mine. It fit alot looser than the one the gun came with, you could tell it had some material removed for sure. Did your replacement slide stop fit pretty loose?

No, it looked just like the original in every way. I asked the lady at CS, if they could have just sent another bad stop, and she said no. Was your stop refinished like new?

Yes, and packaged in a retail box like a new slide stop. The invoice included with the package said "slide stop, modified" or something like that.

Yeah...Thats how mine was packaged, but don't recall the invoice saying anything about being modified. Well mines fixed, for now at least, just gotta shoot the snot out of it I guess, and go from there:)
