USA Constitution at Barnes Noble

Tovarish Vasilia-

Aside from Federalist/Anti-Federalist (a good edition of the former should include the latter), get Tucker's Blackstone for further insight into why the Constitution says what it does.

Barnes and Noble has more than just the Constitution. I picked up the federalist papers and common sense. Those, along with the Constitution cost less than $20. The older gentlemen who rang me up mentioned how he wish he saw more young people like myself purchase books like this.

He was even more suprised when he found out that I was buying them for no other purpose that to read them (he assumed they were for a class).

Where can I get one of these?
Thanks
AC

I guess I should have made this more clear in my post. . .

I also bought my (palm-sized) copy at Barnes & Noble, which is a popular bookstore chain around here. Dunno if they are a national chain or not, but they are kinda like Borders. Anyways, it was sitting in a rotating rack like you would find postcards in. Dunno if you can get it at other stores since sometimes Barnes & Noble has special printings of classic books with the B&N name on the cover.

I keep the palm-sized copy in the car, in case someone tries to violate my civil rights while I am away from home. :D

Does your copy include the Preamble to the Bill of Rights (yes, the BoR has a separate Preamble)?

I only ask because the copy the government distributes doesn't.

Why are you paying money for something that's available online for free?!!

Because, the look on peoples face when you whip it out is priceless. Normally I mind my own business, but I was waiting in line at a local sub shop when two girls around my age were talking. Due to the proximity I couldn't help but overhear thier conversation. In the course of it, one of them said; "I can't belive they are doing that, I'm sure it's unconstitutional." That was my cue. I reach in to my bag and pull it out. I extended to her when she asks what was it. I told her a copy of the Constitution. She kind of just smiled and nodded her head a bit.

Later, while I am ordering, I hear the other girls say:

"Does he really carry around a copy of the Constitution wherever he goes?"

Sure Do.

Newbie needs help

Pardon me for being off topic, but can someone please tell me how to post a thread?....I've looked trough FAQ and either I'm blind, stupid or both cuz I can't find the info......feel free to PM me....thanks

JP: You might need to make a certain minimum number of posts first. I'm new here too, though, so I'm not sure. :)

Finch: You have inspired me to do the same. I am tired of people always talking about this and that but not having the actual document to support their claim.

If I could I would buy you a beer. The simple truth is that many of our younger people dont care about these sorts of things. I am a young person myself (25) and I am currently in college. I see many people just not caring over what is going on with our country and even in our local areas.

An example is that in my hometown of Orland Park, Illinois, there is a smoking ban. They banned smoking in all public buildings. And within 50 feet of an entrance to a public building.

The majority of the younger people I know complained about this and how it violates their rights. They complain about how it isnt fair and that it will drive out businesses. But then when you ask them why they voted for the people they did it was either "I didnt vote" or "I didnt know they stood for this" or "I voted all party line". Sadly the most common being that they didnt vote.

When you ask them why they support a position (gun control, smoking bans, abortion, war on terror, etc. etc) they often dont know. They usually have some sort of emotional based response or a reason because my parents said it was a good idea. This kind of thinking bothers me a lot. I can write for hours on how much this pisses me off simply because if your not willing to research the issues and candidates then you should not complain about them.

Our generation is going to drag this country down, however I suspect the preceding ones will pull it farther until it is gone completely. I am starting to like the idea of the government becoming more of a nanny and more repressive because maybe, just maybe, it will open up the eyes of my generation. As soon as they are affected they will start to get active and they dont realize that by then it is to late. Hence when you start to talk about the Bill of Rights and our rights as citizens you are ostracised because you are not the typical person they meet. I really hate my generation and I dont know what will wake them up and get active, what will spark the idea of freedom in them?

I strongly think that we have been placated with luxury here in America. We have so much of an abundance of choice, wealth, luxury, and freedom that we forgot what made America great. We forgot what it was like to be without and to have to work for it. We forgot that freedom is not free or that we have to exercise our rights to keep them. That we are not children of the state and that our government is not our nanny. That we have to be responsible for our own actions and that we have to provide for ourselves. We forgot about what injustice tastes like. We forgot that people paid a price for the things we take for granted. A great thing to do is ask people what happened on December 7th. Most people my age dont know. But they know how to program their IPOD with over 30000 songs.

We as a generation and a nation have forgotten our roots. It is simple as that. Ask someone what 5 rights are protected in the first amendment? Ask them what amendment is what and watch as they dont know.

It really sickens me.

Perhaps you should take your inspiration from Finch and rush right out to buy yourself a copy of this nation's founding documents and the supporting philosophical inspirations...so as to rapidly destroy the wisdom of this notion you have. :D

A couple of years ago I did better than $10.00.
I typed in U.S. Constitution in my "search engine". Got the constitution and printed it into a PDF file.

Well, if you are ever in Vegas....I like Sam Adams.

I agree that our generation (I'm 23) is lost. I see it every time I am at school. There is a lost sense of personal responsibility. Our peers feel that it is a requirement of the government to give them handouts.

My fellow students almost seem shocked that I support private ownership of firearms. Hell, some of them are suprised that I support private ownership of anything (silly socialists). And the meer fact that I am willing to defend my life with deadly force blows some of their minds. It seems like a hopeless fight, but for some reason I keep fighting it. Someone has to represent reason in our Institutions of Higher Education.
