Anyone know anything about these US put together AUG's. I saw an add in shotgun news, and would like the scoop. When will they become available, and what is the price?
Thanks

I used an Austrian one for about 10 years. They look sexy but they have too many problems as far as I'm concerned. Maybe American engineering can solve all the problems.

Thanks

Thanks for the link Gladius. Unfortunately it doesn't tell much

It'll be nice when they are finally available. There's been so much said about them over the past few years that I'm just holding my comments about them and anyone who sells them until I hear about someone who actually owns one.

About a year ago I was on a different forum and former poster and shop owner "wildinAlaska" was saying he was getting them in stock soon. Also, ImpactGuns was even taking pre-orders on them up to 2 years back.

$1850 or $1950, I cannot remember which. They are taking 'pre-orders' now.

No $ down, no obligation to buy, just an e-mail when yours in ready.

I believe it was in the vicinity of $1800, but that may have been dealer pricing. Supposedly the display models at SHOT were completed rifles, but equipped with a variety of stocks from other companies that had been altered to fit properly (although they seemed to have failed at that) for display purposes. And supposedly they were very close to getting in quantities of the final production stocks that will be shipped on the rifles...

Their product literature is still sitting at home somewhere, but I'm not quite sure what to think about their rifle. Even assuming that everything goes according to plan, and they start shipping within the next few months, it really doesn't thrill me that much. $2,000 for a .223 bullpup is a bit much, and the ergonomics didn't seem too amazing, but then again I've never had the chance to shoot an original Steyr.

Okay, here's the deal.

The Microtech gun is not done in conjunction with the Steyr guns. At the 2005 SHOT, Steyr was there talking about building US Augs. That died.

Microtech took the Aug and redid everything on it.

The guns that are being preorded at the $1900 mark are a package wtih a bunch of extras and a commerative knife. They're doing that with the first several hundred of the guns.

The actual price is going to be somewhere around $1500 if I recall correctly. We're on the list to buy 15 of them.

I never did get the AUG. It was just too diff't for me :scrutiny: I was more the HK 91/93 kinda guy...now those were cool. To bad I'm in the PRK and all semi's end in "fixed 10 round mag" :banghead:
But it is nice that they'll be available for the free states!

Shot one years back in both semi and full auto. Long on coolness but didn't care for the balance, trigger, and so on. Have owned two carbines, one Colt and one Bushmaster, and prefer them.

My Bushmaster M4gery has a compact ACOG on it and I still have less in it that the AUG would cost...

The thing that concerns me is just how much reengineering did they do versus the original Steyr design?

If there are significant differences in the internal parts of the rifle, how much will replacement parts cost? What happens if the company goes under if things don't work out?

Hopefully the differences are mostly cosmetic and many of the critical parts of the original AUG will fit.

Wow, for once a rumor was actually true! This sure got my attention!

1. These are NOT made by Steyr Arms or any of its licensed partners including ADI, Malaysia or any others partners. Nor did they have anything to do with the project.

2. Pjs teamed up with Microtech Knives to build a more advanced 100% USA made AUG style rifle.

3. STG 556 Rifle will have the "AUG" style plastic magazines, STG 556 mags are more advanced, we used newer materials that are much stronger. It will NOT take the AR15/M16 magazines.

4. STG 556 rifles will have true 16 & 20" barrel versions with flashiders and check nut that actually come of if you wish.

5. The barrels will be quick detach with a push of a button.

6. All STG 556 parts are made in the USA

7. STG 556 Rifles available in 3 Stock color choices.

8. Over 90% of the parts for this rifle is made here in house.

9. The most important thing is that I personally will make sure that we listen to you, our customers and give you the weapon that you want. No junk or short cuts here. I have met with many LE tactical teams and designed the weapon to suit Military, Police and demanding civilian market. We have full staff of engineers and tool makers in house. We have done our homework here and when you guys see this weapon it will blow you away. My partners and I have over 20 years of knowledge in the "AUG" platform, combined experience we fixed all the weak points on the "AUG" platform. We have totally upgraded the weapon from outside to inside.

10. We will be fully stocking all spare parts and accessories for these including complete rail systems. Guys can buy direct from us. Complete barrels and other spare parts will be available and also be very affordable.

11. STG 556 has scope assembly and easily comes of with having to dis assemble rifle to allow rails options.

12. STG 556 Rifles will be marketed to the Military/Law Enforcement and Civilian market.

I personally love the Steyr AUG and have several of them including semis, transferable, pre samples and still have a few post samples but I truly believe that we have taken the AUG platform to a higher level with our rifle.

Well judging by this photo -

The cocking handle is either different or the revised AUG type. It would appear to have an AR-15 style forward assist and the receiver looks to be slightly different.

From the if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it file, why don't they use AR mags? I've got a dozen of them that all function perfectly, and I'd like to be able to use them in a variety of guns? Why would I want to buy a bunch of expensive, hard-to-find magazines for another gun when there is no measurable benefit from such an expenditure?

FWIW, Microtech Knives makes some of the best stuff out there in the knife market without getting things custom made. They've got some great engineers over there. And to think I thought I was done giving money to them when I curbed my knife habit a bit . . .

There are actually two companies making domestic Aug clones. One is the aforementioned Microtech and the other is being produced by a company called Tactical Product Design T.P.D. I don't think they have a website, but from what I understand they are making a more faithful reproduction of the Aug. Here is a rather longish thread about both Aug clones on ar15.com.

If they can improve the trigger pull, they will have accomplished something… Something that may spur me into getting one.

People in NJ could be interested in this rifle because it's not explicitly named the AUG... which is banned. In NJ, you can own a XM15 but not an AR15... ridiculous, I know. So a STG 556 would be legal. Which isn't to say they wouldn't hesitate to drag you into court... but they'd run into NJ precedent showing it's legal if they did. Sigh.
