Use Rem 788 bottom metal for rem 700?

Hi! I have a Rem 700SA in .222 and wonder if i could use the bottom metal and the neat detach magazine from a 788 in my 700? I understand there will be job to fitting but how much and is the distance between stock screws the same? Anyone tried?

I dont think it will fit.

According to 'Bolt-Action Rifles' by DeHass.
Guard screw spacing:
788 = 7.062".
700 Long action = 7.25".
700 Short action = 6.50".
