Push a patch down the barrel, and if the bore is bright and shiny, it will be a good rifle.
To achieve target grade accuracy you will need to bed the thing and free float the barrel, but as they came from the hardware store, Rem 700's are more than accurate enough to kill a deer.
In so far as the trigger, if the thing is gummed up, I believe it would malfunction. I don't see why carb cleaner and compressed air would not flush the thing out. But it is true that the occasional Walker trigger had malfunctions, and if that really is an issue, Remington will replace it. And there are really reliable triggers such as Timney around.
