What are you folks seeing in your area for used AR pricing?

Something like an older M4gery with fixed front sight, removable carry handle and standard military carbine collapsible stock and short hand guards- No extra rails, no extended handguards, no M-LOC, no Magpul stuff, etc.

Makers might include Stag (old), Bushmaster (old), DPMS, CMMG, etc.

Thanks!

The vanilla carry handle carbine isn't the standard AR anymore so selection of factory guns with that setup aren't quiet as common. $500 gets a new PSA.

Plenty of new complete flattop rifles with railed forearms are floating around new for $400 (sometimes less).

There is a local chain store I like to check the used rack at pretty frequently. The hourly employees that work there have no idea about anything and the prices on the used rack are a complete lottery. They will sometimes have stuff comically underpriced because they don’t know what it is and can’t be bothered to research it. Their used AR’s are usually on the opposite end of the spectrum. They have a used one in there now with a BCA side charging upper on an anderson lower priced at $1300. I don’t have the heart to tell them it’s a $250 upper on a $150 lower. Someone behind the counter really got taken for a ride by whoever sold that to them.

I’m generally not interested in used AR’s unless I knew for sure what it is or who built it. There is so much cheap garbage tier Chinese AR parts out there and it can be hard to know if it’s a factory built setup or if bubba hammered it together from a stripped lower and a $19.99 FCG from alibaba.

Pretty much. I am not giving 10cents for any bubba Assembled special no matter whose name is on the parts. Once you go cheaper and cheaper the lines start blurring between who made what

Saw a Rock river mid length similar to what you describe for $750 recently.

DPMS seem to be much less. I saw an LR-308 (1st gen) listEd for $600. I was too late to make that deal.

Bushmasters on GB similar to what you describe seem to going for 650-800.

I'd never given it any thought, but I can't recall the last time I saw a used AR for sale.
Our local shops are overflowing with them.
Often they are homebuilds with a mish-mash of low end parts and questionable assembly quality. I think they were either sold off once the covid panic ebbed away or they might not have run right due to mistakes in the build process. Even "factory" guns are likely to have been modded and who knows whats going on with them internally.
Basically, any used AR should be treated as a parts gun until you fully strip it and do a QC reassembly.
Too much work and risk when you can buy a new one for the same or less money.

Palmetto AR's aren't exactly top of the line rifles so it makes sense that brand new they may be cheaper than a used better quality rifle.

My friend picked up two never fired PSAs for $500. That's on the low end, typically they are closer to $400 each asking price.

Unless it's a Colt, boutique, or factory AR, I don't see used AR15s selling at all. The price a factory upper, lower, or complete rifle sells for depends solely on the features, model, and brand. It's not a simple straightforward answer. There are too many factors involved. Of course, parting all the parts out will fetch more money than selling a Frankenstein AR outright.

Thanks everyone!

I was looking at a LGS's very low round count "classic M4" RH Stag offered at a fair price (especially given tax, shipping & transfer costs of buying non-OTC). It will be coming to its new home soon. We have had good luck with Stag over the years.

I have pretty much zero interest in the current popular styling features.

10ish years ago I bought a used complete Bushmaster Upper off Gunbroker. I wont do that again.
It was a jam-o-matic on multiple lowers. I sold it to a friend for parts.

There's really no point in buying used when Palmetto State Armory exists.
