Used Colt 1911 MkIV - price check

Saw a Colt 1911, Mark IV, series 80 at the local gun shop for $639. Gun is stainless with black rubber Colt grips, arched MSH, short trigger, one mag, no accessories. Sights are like what are on the Springer MilSpec (not GI). Gun has some miles on it but they don't look to be hard miles. No major scratches.

What do you think on the price?
Great deal?
Fair?
Meh...could do better?

The guy I talked with said it depends on the manager on duty - I might get a few bucks off, but it won't be major (i.e., no "$650 out the door" kind of thing).

$400-500 would be a fair price for one.

Too much. $500 max and that is if you live in a market with a tight Colt market.

NIB SS 80 series guns can still be had for $699+ shipping.

New Series 80 sell for $800+ in my neck of the woods.

I'll admit my lack of knowledge of specific models over the years, but I wasn't aware Colt made a stainless Series 80 with a short trigger and arched mainspring housing. If it isn't too badly beat up, that is a model and price, I'd be interested in.

In the DFW area, a NIB stainless Series 80 is about $800 from the big gun-show discounters and a bit more from the brick-n-mortar gun stores.

IMHO that is about right in most areas. The guy I used blew out some Combat Elites at the end of 2010 for $879 shipped.

This morning in Reno Nv I bought a nib Colt light commander for $600. It came with two mags. It looks, feels and shoots very nice. I was suprised to find a new Colt 1911 for such a reasonable price.
